Lost Anglers
Pursues its Own Brand of
"C 'n' W" … Country New Wave.
Their hurtin' ballads and standards mix harmony vocals, acoustic guitar and mandolin with dual lead guitars and a punk influenced rhythm section.
Formed in Toronto in 2005, by four members of the 70s New Wave band, the Cads (Do the Crabwalk - EP), guitarist Ross Edmunds, drummer Chris Terry, singer John Ford and guitarist Owen Burgess soon welcomed Carl Finkle ..boards and mandolin and veteran TO punk rocker Steve Starr on bass. Edmunds, Terry and Burgess write the original material, following muses as diverse as Marty Stuart, Daniel Johnson and Bob Nolan.
Chris Terry: drums, vocals, guitar.
Chris drummed for Oh Those Pants - OCADs semi-mythical 70s art schlock orchestra - the Cads, E-Static and the Everglades. These days, Chris also steps up to the mic to sing and play guitar on some of the lovely sad love songs he writes. He, along with fellow Angler Ross Edmunds, is co-producer/co-director of "The Ballad of Handsome Ned", the officially sanctioned film biography of legendary Queen West cowboy, Ned Masyk, scheduled for release in 2008.
Steve Starr: bass.
"Hell Billy" broke into the scene in the early 80s, as singer-guitarist of F*cked Up Teddy Boys, Shake Appeal and Fabulous Pyscho Rock Star. He's been a sideman for acts as diverse as Johnny Thunders and Too Much Herb. After a brief time on the folk scene, he moved into independent production.
John Ford: vocals, guitar. John and his trusty Gibson have been playing music since the mid-70s. More recently, you may have heard him around town in duets with his brother Mike Ford, Cathy Seeley, or as a double second pannist with Toronto's world-renowned Afropan Steelband.
Ross Edmunds: vocals, harmonica, guitar. Ross is a veteran of too many nights playing the Bev, the Colonial Tavern, Larry's Hideaway, the Horseshoe, the Cabana Room and Davids as bassist with Oh Those Pants, Cads, Doncasters and guitarist and singer for the Sportsmen, Byters and the Ruin. His company, Hi-Fi Records, released "Shoeshine Boy" by seminal Toronto femmepunks the Curse.
Owen Burgess: guitar, vocals. After time with Oh Those Pants, Owen joined the Cads as rhythm guitarist and co-songwriter with lyricists Chris Terry and legendary king cad himself, Bag Asteroid. Following a brief stint with the Byters he took 20 years off.
