Where Were We? A Reintroduction to the Lost Valentinos.
Since their conception back in 2005 Sydney’s Lost Valentinos have gained the notoriety of wizards at work. They have managed to hone their own unique sound, blending a need for lush sonic experimentation with a love of torching the dancefloor, and have accomplished in a few short years what many young bands can only dream of accomplishing in an entire career:
- The release of two highly successful sold-out EPs (their debut produced by The Presets’ Kim Moyes and their sophomore effort by Aria award-winning dance duo Nick Littlemore and Peter Mayes of Pnau);
- A European and Japanese tour;
- Remix love from the likes of Headman, Van She Tech, Bang Gang, Bag Raiders, Ajax and Comets (one part Cut Copy, one part Riot In Belgium)
- Highly sought-after slots on some of Australia’s biggest festivals including Australia’s first run of V festivals, Splendor in The Grass, Falls Festival, Homebake and Parklife.
- Tours with acts as critically acclaimed and artistically diverse as The Church and Soulwax.
After shedding their skin (and their name) in the latter half of 2007, the boys may have seemed to have slowed their swagger a little on the live scene. But alas, breaks aren’t exactly slotted into camp de Valentinos’ schedule, so it could only have meant that something big was brewing - a new, deeper and more mature vibe was on its way.
In August 2007 the boys delivered us the ferocious single "17 Deaths", the lovechild of a brief studio romance earlier in the year between the band and one of the most respected names in dance music across the world - Ewan Pearson (Goldfrapp, The Rapture, Ladytron, M83 et al). Simultaneously, on the other side of the globe, the band became only the second Australian band (after Cut Copy) to release their own 12" on the highly respected French tastemaker label Kitsune, with the release of their Miles From Nowhere EP. This was following on from Lost Valentinos' appearance on Kitsune's Maison 3 compilation with the Bag Raiders' much loved remix of Kafka!
Things had only just begun though, and in November of that year the band decided that it was time to saddle up in the studio once again and rekindle their relationship with the aforementioned English-born, Berlin-based uber-producer, to prove that "17 Deaths" was no fluke - far from it, it was just the tip of the iceberg.
So, at the end of 2007, they emerged from their makeshift(ghetto) studio, which sits hidden above a friends clothing store called Dobry Den, with the essence of a little something you might call "Conquistadisco". Then in early 2008, the boys travelled first to Berlin and then finally to East London to complete the mixing stage of their eagerly anticipated debut with Bruno Ellingham (New Order, Goldfrapp, Spiritualized and KT Tunstall) at the world-reknowned Miloco Studios - previously haunted by Klaxons, Chemical Brothers, UNKLE and Arctic Monkeys.
Now, it's time to get excited all over again with the release of the first single from the album - "The Bismarck" - on the horizon. In complete Lost Valentinos fashion the single has already seen a steady show of hats thrown into the ring from international high-hitting remixers, and the band are ready to set jaws dropping and pulses racing all over again as they delve back into the live arena - the view can only be dizzying from where they stand...
It is going swwwwwwwwwell!!! Just been hanging out in shoreditch parks doing K in the sun last few days:) Got detained at the airport for 5 hours, fingerprinted, mug shot, searched etc which was HORRIBLE !
