"Vancouver's Lotus Child is an unpretentious progressive-pop band for the playlist generation. With electro bleeps and synthscapes, sing-along harmonies, Supertramp-brand piano and Motown horn sections Lotus child is full of classic songs inspired by the shit-mix of genres that fill the iPod of the modern twenty-something. The band features keyboardist/producer Tom Dobrzanski and singer/guitarist Zach Gray. Dobrzanski also runs Vertical Studios, a hub of Vancouver’s burgeoning indie scene, and is one of the city’s most in-demand young producers."
Though Gray and Dobrzanski began working in 2003 things really came together for the pair in 2006 when they enlisted bassist Peter Carruthers and drummer Miles Bruce and released their first album, Gossip Diet. The independent release has been a success; selling thousands of copies and garnering positive reviews, "With songs this cleverly written and this artfully played it's only a matter of time before the A&R hyenas start circling” (The Georgia Straight).
A busy Canada-wide touring schedule followed, with opening slots for bands such as Memphis, Apostle of Hustle and Mother Mother, and invitations to showcase at NXNE and Canadian Music Week.
