Played drums since I was eight years old. Lessons for ten years. Marching bands, school bands, garage bands, wedding bands, my own bands. Have played recently with my band, Proof of Utah, with Robin Zimmermann and Doug Martsch (Built to Spill), with Lanterna, Ray White (Frank Zappa), Juan Nelson (Ben Harper), Marc Ford (The Black Crowes), Leon Mobley (Michael Jackson), DJ Logic, Mike Brosco and Steve Burton (Proof of Utah; The Signalmen), Kris Doty, Thomas Paul, and John McMahon. Proof of Utah released six albums from 1984 to 1990, released by Smiley Turtle Records (our own label) and Recommended Records in Germany. Then I got a Ph.D. in Literature from Loyola University in Chicago and was an English professor at Boise State University for seven years (voted Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year in 05 by the English majors). Love teaching, music, and writing.
Sounds great Louie. I recently went to a lecture/conversation by Eno and Jon Hassell at the Walker. I always think of you when I'm in the presence of other great musical minds. As I was listening to Newest One I could almost hear that airy, atmospheric texture of Hassell sweeping through. Not that it needs it, it just calls up the same emotions for me.
