Young, wild, and armed with an acoustic guitar, Louise Distras sings of desperate situations, dodging bullets, final stands and hostile towns with the coarse emotional vigour of a reckless outlaw. With the rise of X Factor culture, commercially-made-pop-stars sucking the life out of auto tuners and girls like The Saturdays generally embarrassing the music scene, Louise is the Yorkshire cousin to Frank Turner, Billy Bragg and Mumford & Sons, she's like a female 21st century Joe Strummer – the personification of great punk rock – pop melody blended with raw passion and energy, as well as an outlaw spirit and renegade soul integral in all great acoustic guitar-toting rock 'n' rollers. Folk punk may strike some as somewhat of a contradiction in stylistic terms but Ms. Distras ties the fast paced aggression of Joe Strummers Wild – West rebellious attitude to the rustic charm of the current 'folk revival' with jaunty skill and the result sound is distinctive, appealing and instantly memorable. Louise has been likened to Brody Dalle and Courtney Love, but it wont be long before other solo performers are being compared to her, since releasing her debut EP 'Spiders' less than a year ago, her transition from Blockades frontwoman to solo acoustic punk has been a great underground success. With appearances at this years Rebellion Punk Festival in Blackpool, Strummercamp Festival and gigs with Tim Barry, The Adverts, Sonic Boom Six, The Selecter, Great Cynics and Ben Marwood aswell as BBC sessions in the bag and features in Big Cheese, Subbacultcha, Punk News, God Is In The TV, For Folks Sake, Strummerville, Louder Than War's 'Band Of The Day','Band Of The Month' for October in Room Thirteen, and #6 in Punk News Top 10 releases Of 2011 – Louise has just completed a UK Tour with New Model Army and a 12 date European tour with Mike Scott. 2012 began with a series of Austrian tourdates with recent Flogging Molly tour support,The Mighty Stef plus gigs with Subhumans, Zounds, Pete and The Test Tube Babies, Bleech and The Vibrators. Louise will also be performing at Strummercamp and Rebellion Festivals for the second year running. On 8th March 2012 ( International Womens Day ), Louise Distras released her debut single 'The Hand You Hold'. Described as ' a fierce anthem for female empowerment ' by God Is In The TV Zine, 'The Hand You Hold' is taken from Louise Distras' forthcoming debut album expected to be released in late 2012, engineered by Pat Collier ( New Model Army, X Ray Spex, Maximo Park ) and produced by Steve Whale at Perry Vale Studios in London.
