Louise Hughes, guitarist, singer & songwriter, formerly based in Sydney, has decided to settle on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, after many years of touring and performing both nationally & internationally.
Louise has had a massive professional career, performing both sides of the Tasman. She has encompassed Blues, Rock, Funk, Country Rock, Pop, and her own original blues material.
Originally from New Zealand, music really started for Louise while singing in a church choir. She first picked up a guitar & a ukulele at three years of age. In High School, she formed a rock band with some family members playing songs by Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Credence Clearwater Revival, Eric Clapton, Bad Finger & Mississippi at the local Town Hall.
Louise has played lead guitar in the following bands or shows: Bonnie and Clyde, Dalvanius and the Fascinations, South Side Upbeats, The Wait, Party Girls, Maiden Oz, The Flames, Toxic Blonde, blues band Blue Nazz and funk band Ardijah.
Louise is probably best known as part of the all girl band The Party Girls, which achieved great recognition & success in the 1980’s.

The Party Girls supported international acts such as Meat Loaf, The Sweet and Suzi Quatro, as well as Simple Minds and The Eurythmics. They were also a headline act themselves, having a chart topping album, appearing at the Sydney Entertainment Centre, LIVE AID - Oz for Africa, & appearing on many T.V. shows.
In the mid 90’s Louise toured as lead guitarist with New Zealand's No. 1 funk band, Ardijah, as well as performing for the “Coca Cola Christmas in the Park” concerts, of which she was Musical Director for the late Dalvanius Prime.
In recent years, Louise recorded a ten track alternate blues CD with New Zealand musicians Patrick Kuhtze on drums, Stuart Pearce ..s, Max Stowers on bass & the backing vocals of Sharon Tuapawa with Louise on vocals, electric, slide & acoustic guitars as well as backing vocals.
She then formed a blues/rock line-up called "The Louise Hughes Band". This band played extensively on the Sydney circuit, headlining or supporting such acts as Angry Anderson – Rose Tattoo. They covered Texas Blues plus tracks from her CD.
In 2007, Louise entered her songs “No Telling” &“Neptune” an instrumental, into the “International Songwriting Competition” & was awarded as a Finalist & an Honorary Mention respectively for these songs. In August of 2008, 272 Records in Hollywood, California, picked up on “No Telling” & added it to their first Blues Compilation, “Blues Highway Vol. 1”
As a solo artist, Louise's repertoire harnesses and reflects her unique onstage presence and amplifies her ability to communicate with her audience through her music. Above all she has an unbelievable ability to stun her audience with her amazing guitar licks and vocal feel, whether it is in her original material or in covering Texas blues.
Louise is currently writing for a new album with songwriter/lyricist Linda King. Linda, who plays harp & rhythm guitar, is also part of Louise's new rockin' blues line-up
"LOUISE HUGHES & THE BLUESMOTHER BAND"
Louise is also excited to have worked with Sylvette Brière of Zooloo from Quebec, Canada, who did the vox & lyrics for a French version of her song "Shoulder of Love".
