Live365's Lestats120minutes.NetGOTHIC RADIO REVIEW
Saturday, June 14, 2003Go to http://www.live365.com/cgi-bin/mini.cgi?membername=lestats120minutes
Never Man by Peter Murphy gets Lestats 120 minutes of gothic music hosted by Louis off to a good start. I will be forthright in admitting the technology is a bit foreign. Broadcasting through Live365, audio quality is excellent, but there are occasional house spots.
Off the DJs web site (lestats120minutes.net) there are two streams behind the show link. I am not sure which is which, and when the audio player hangs, I just refresh. Good news is, there are more than two hours of selections, and the selections are good.
Going through Live365 lead to being shut out, saying that I had to pay to be a preferred member. Its like that song from Circle Jerks: I wanted to get on the guest list, but they would let me FUCKING IN! Nor did they play Defamation Innuendo.
Saved by Short Term Effect and my favorite, A Strange Day, is one too late by The Cure. Ill probably figure out Live365s system better in a few months. Maybe even explore the 76 stations labeled goth on Live365. Beyond the absurd list of other sites with microdeposits of gothic music content, broken links and short scheduled broadcasts anytime but now, I wage a technical battle with Live365 as if I have to hack into it. I hope that with my guidance you spend less time chasing invisible streams and enjoying listening to good music. Dont press stop button or youll have to close and go back to reinitiate. Pushing play doesnt do it for me. Ads seem to stop future song names from being listed. Maybe my glitch; maybe theirs. The difficulty in getting here cannot be overstated, so just follow the link above or from Lestats home page, and refresh if it hangs.
8:04pm Friday, June 13th : The fact I am live is confirmed by the DJ stating the exact time shown on the lower right hand corner of the screen. The Smiths with an excellent version of Meat is Murder. Louis talks shit about his old station at San Diego State. Yes, I agree San Diego What a mistake. The Eternal Afflict. At least we can say the word shit, hey!
Adam Ant brings alluring memories of Mother in NYC, and then I hear BiGod20s rendition of Like a Prayer. Tori Amoss Winter reminds me, I must procure that compilation my girlfriend has of goth bands playing Tori covers. Project Darklands Die Moldau felt very fresh and creative. I could not determine if a river, a city or ? But a good band that received ample play.
From the undulating All That Remains is Silence by Sepulcrum Mentis to more classic staples, Lestat is consistent in quality. The Adams Family theme song brings memories of a strange childhood finding unusual comfort under dusty staircases and cobweb filled crawl spaces. Christine Says makes me realize this isnt the first Tones on Tale tune I have enjoyed hearing from Lestat.
A Bolshoi song, not off my only cassette of the band, Friends, is one I have never heard before. I hang up (accidentally) on a born again Christian who hung up on me (not accidentally) three weeks ago. Worship just the sameLindys Party
A mondegreen is when you mishear a lyric in a song, even if the words seem a bit daft or total nonsense. The Center for the Humane Study of Mondegreens notes that a popular one is "Gladly, my cross-eyed bear" -- a distortion of an old hymn, "Gladly My Cross I'd Bear.

THE RETURN OF THE BAT
Specimen will bring their special brand of glam mayhem, The Batcave to London again.
After last year’s wildly-successful 25th anniversary Batcave event, The Batcave returns to its original spawning ground of London’s West End on Sunday July 19 for another night of blasphemy, lechery and blood.
Specimen (Fresh from a fantastic show at Leipzig’s Waves Gotik festival), the original Batcave instigators will headline the lurid frolics at the Embassy Club, (29 Old Burlington St, London W1S3AP) Also on the bill are original Batcavers Sexbeat, with DJs Hamish and Cavey Nick, cavorting from decks to decadence with the usual brutal, trouser-dropping surprises & suitably confronting & barbaric entertainment.
The 2009 Batcave will feature installations from exciting new artists of the ‘Dark London Underground’ and visuals from the upcoming ‘Welcome To The Batcave’ book, along with this year’s bitcrushed message from the creature in the Batcave Pram. All set in a spooky Bladerunner environment!
So dress to kill … prepare for a thrill & Expect the unexpected!
The Batcave will be open from 10pm till 3am. Tickets £15 available from www.ticketweb.co.uk and Resurrection Records.
