Louvana is presently located and active in the island of Cyprus. In September 2009 the first Louvana Festival took place over here. It featured thirteen acts, a few of these favourites of the London Louvanas which traveled from different places to perform at the festival. A compilation CD was also released to celebrate the festival and to kick of the Louvana Records label. You can learn more about all this at the Louvana Records site.
Thanks for visiting. Keep checking out Louvana for new events and releases.
LOUVANA - LONDON HISTORY - 2007-2008
Louvana is a traditional Cypriot soup. It is also the name of a monthly event of eclectic music that used to take place initially in the back room of the Grosvenor Pub in Stockwell, South London. The aim of Louvana was to create a scene based around good quality music and put on live music events where you could come down and enjoy the whole nite and meet other like-minded people.
The nites started running in March 2007 a nite that was headlined by the truly unique The Invisible (who were then called My Angel’s Boombox). Louvana was always hosted by Masters of Disguise who would do a set every month between another two bands. Usually one of the bands would come from outside London or the country. The styles range was rock – psychedelic – folk - experimental – pop.
Along the way Acoustic Louvana was born which was taking place once a month as well at the cosy Bodrum Café on Stoke Newington High st. and later on at the Gladstone in Borough. As the name suggests this was the acoustic equivalent of the band nite and it featured some of the best acoustic acts in London and beyond. Most of the time it was hosted by Pigling Bland. You can see all the people that appeared at the different Louvana nites here on the left.
Thanks a lot for putting me on last night, was a great evening. Every act was fucking amazing. I'd love to come up and play at another Louvana event, I'm just sorry I couldn't stick around till the end. All the best. Lee.
