After so long spent in the secluded musical utopia that is Super Melody World,
mastering the digital bongos and dwelling in a state of harmonic beatitude,
the time has come to share the fruits of Super Melody's musical labour with the material world.
Their debut EP Life is Life Glass features the first single 'Champagne Glass', three other fine Super Melody tunes, and remixes by Stones Throw Records’ James Pants, Pleasant Outcomes (Architecture In Helsinki’s Sam Perry
in solo disco mode), and an incredible trip back to the golden age of nightclubbing
with the world’s only living disco string orchestra, The Luxury of Strings.
The EP will is available now in Melbourne from Polyester, Northside and Round & Round, or worldwide at Apple iTunes. Get your copy now:
Super Melody is the nom-de-plume of James Cecil, formerly of Architecture in Helsinki, and currently part of the electronica act Qua. After 8 years with AIH, James has spent the last year in the studio, writing and producing the debut Super Melody album, Destination Unknown.
'Champagne Glass' is the first Super Melody single, taken from the Life is Like Glass EP, which is out now in selected stores or worldwide via Apple iTunes.
"James Cecil,...formerly the backbone of Architecture in Helsinki, local kids made good internationally, is now fronting Super Melody. On the basis of 'Champagne Glass'..., the lead track from the group's first EP, he deserves the spotlight. Opening with a cushioned percussion and dubbed-out bass, the track combines studio smarts and a live dynamic, with Cecil as the addled narrator offering wisdom only he can. Pay close attention to them next year."

After a four year hiatus, we're proud to announce Melbourne trio Music vs Physics are making their long-awaited return to the world of melodic storytelling with their new release Slept Awake.
On this album, Music vs Physics take a step back from their hip-hop and break-beat history, as enshrined in previous efforts in Northside Perspective (2000), Underscore (2003) and Oblong Data (2005). Like Oblong Data, however, this album contains a strong vocal presence; the voice of Rebecca Charlesworth features across the album, bringing together elements of pop, folk and blues.
Joseph Brady’s production, although grounded in the band’s hip-hop history, this time shies away from large samples to rely on a more minimalist approach to songwriting and performance. Morgan Fayle’s drumming, recorded in an old abandoned barn, lends the album more of a live feel, helping to create a distinct setting for the band’s unique mode of storytelling.
Highlights include the first single ‘All the Pretty Little Horses’, and ‘Don’t Mess With Me’ – a pop/hip-hop hybrid and tirade of a spurned lover.
Slept Awake is instore now, and available globally via Apple iTunes: .
If you're in Melbourne, make sure to come to the album launch on 6 Feb 2010 at the Toff. Not to be missed!!
'All the Pretty Horses' is the first single from Slept Awake, the long awaited fourth album from Music vs Physics. Paring back the band's distinctive trip-hop sound, Rebecca Charlesworth's haunting vocals drift over a sparse banjo and nostalgic record crackle - a combination which creates an old-world lullaby whose unsettling undercurrent belongs very much to the present-day.
Keep an eye out for the new album, instore on the 28th November via Love + Mercy and Shock.
From his cut-and-paste beats to the weird-and-wonderful creatures who inhabit his artwork, the world of Qua is very much his own. So what happens when his latest single 'Good Morning Sun', lifted from Q&A, is remixed by hip-hop producer AOI and poptronica newcomers Shady Lane? Or retold by Wagons as a wistful country ballad? You'll have to get the Good Morning Sun Remix EP to find out.
Via Tania charts a delicate path between the ethereal and the enigmatic - a tension that is underscored in two new remixes of her latest single 'Wonderstranger'. London electronic duo Plaid, whose previous collaborations include Bjork and Goldfrapp, draw on the track's dark undercurrents to create a deep, synth-heavy mix. Sydney producer Jamie Lloyd navigates the song into sparse trip-hop territory. Prepare to be enchanted.
Melbourne singer Pikelet has just delivered her new album Stem to the Love + Mercy office. And we just can't take it off our stereo. Retaining the unique brand of psych-pop which emerged on her debut album, her sophomore release represents an evolution of the Pikelet sound, recorded with the Pikelet band who she has been playing live with over the past year. It's a truly amazing album that we are so excited to release, along with our friends at Chapter Music, in early 2010.
Stay tuned for the first glimpse of this release, with artwork by Celeste Potter. We can't wait to share it with you!
Escape the city. Transcend reality. In the brand new video for 'Goodmorning Sun', director Antuong Nguyen takes us on a journey into the psychedelic dreamscape of a scantily clad Cornel Wilczek aka Qua. With character design by Cailan Burns, who produced the Q&A cover art and tour posters, animation by Chris Northey, special effects by Warran Wright and Gus Kemp on camera, make sure you check out the distinctive sound and fantasy world of Qua made flesh. Well... that, and Cornel in his undies.
Check out the new video for Via Tania's 'Wonder Stranger' below, the latest single lifted from her 2007 album Moon Sweet Moon. This sweetly artful music video, directed by Michelle Ruiz, was shot in Chicago, and premiered to much acclaim on US music website Pitchfork.
In director Gus Kemp's video for Qua's 'Circles', taken from Q&A, Melbourne is transformed into a bizarre dreamsscape where the Prodigy's 'Smack my Bitch Up' and Jim Henson's The Muppets collide.
