Born out of a combination of twentysomething restlessness and a burning desire for something new and interesting to do in Perth on the weekends, Love Is My Velocity made its grand debut in its original incarnation as a chaotic, unpredictable, DIY indie club night on Sunday nights at 8pm at the venerable Velvet Lounge on October 25 2003, thus kicking off over 2 years of big excitement, crazy fun and new thrills, which only got bigger and crazier when it was shifted to Saturday nights at 9pm.
Soon, this ragtag ethic blossomed into special one-off events, like the post-Halloween bonanza known as Slasher Prom, a mix tape exhibition for the Artrage Festival in November 2006 and a bunch of shows featuring bands like Architecture in Helsinki, the Lucksmiths and Snowman hijacking the DJ booth or playing gigs to remember.
Then we started releasing records, with four limited edition split 7" singles to our names so far - featuring a bunch of great bands - The Bank Holidays, Institut Polaire, Tucker B's, Airport City Shuffle, Josh Fontaine, Joe Bludge, Sugar Army, 7 Day Weekend and The Tigers and Stina. Oh, and did we mention that we've released albums too? 'Cos we have. Two of 'em, as a matter of fact, in the supine forms of the cracking debut albums from Burton Cool Suit and Bamodi. And oh yeah, a cookbook too!
In 2008 LIMV hosted LIMV karaoke with everyones favourite accordian-playing Melbournian Pikelet. This was soon followed by an easter gig (with easter egg cocktails!) featuring Japanese band Lullatone before we helped release a fabulous book of writing and art called 'First Page', another gig with Tujiko Noriko and then the release of our 5th split 7". Plus we have a new website with a fancy shop now too so you have no excuse not to own pretty things.
