"ONE'S TO WATCH!" THE FLY MAGAZINE APRIL 2006
THE BRUCE DICKENSON ROCK SHOW BBC RADIO 6 APRIL 2006
"molten slabs of primeval beast rock. Like hungry wolves unleashed upon the fleshy torso of whimsical impotent rock and roll bores, Lovemat are a savage sleaze rock wonder." - James Jam, NME
Occupying the same strange hinterland as Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster or Turbonegro, Lovemat play psychotic- punk like Guns n Roses with but Kaiser Chiefs irrepressible pop tendencies and snatches of Rocket From The Crypt-style of brass, all delivered with the swaggering menace of the droogs of A Clockwork Orange
Lovemat lurch from one dark, train wreck of a song to the next,
oblivious of the rules and conventions supposedly imposed by genre.
This is punky, psychobilly-esque, stomping rock n roll nonsense
at its best, reminiscent at times of that other odd troupe The 80s
Matchbox B Line Disaster. They breed them weird in the north east you
know.

Between The Lines is a fantastically harsh, piercing punk-type
hard rock song with a clashing of riffs, drums and bass. It's so
sleazy and filthy it could have emanated from a neglected public
toilet. B-side Lost In The City has a harder sound, leaving deep King
Kong-like footprints on the ground. It's covered in graffiti but
nonetheless it's an infectious, tough noise.
This is a superb debut indeed, vicious and bloodthirsty but
brilliantly alluring. It's an injection of hard rock that's worth the
risk.

Lovemat all look like roadies for Bullet For My Valentine. You
might view it as a blessing therefore, that they sound nothing like
them. In fact, they sound rather like an unusual crossbreeding of
Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster and Terrorvision. The band manage
to marry a reasonable gift for a melody with punk tendencies and
still find more than enough time for ‘rocking out’. They even squeeze
in a little saxophone.
Lead singer Paul (no surname supplied) describes the record as
‘rough as a badger’s arse in some places.’ This would certainly be
the case if you substituted ‘some places’ with ‘all places’ and
‘badger’s arse’ with ‘Anne Robinson’. It is ever-so-slightly ropey
around the edges. But surprisingly, after a while, this actually
becomes inherently part of its unpolished charm.
Make no mistake. This is sleaze rock. Like jam-rock. But with
more sleaze.

A racy anthem to get your rocks off to, the heady music of Lovemat is
primarily propelled by mesmerising guitar riffage that thunders into
the mix beside delectable harmonies and strong vocals from Paul Kell.
They are an old-skool hard rock band and hail from Newcastle, with
this being their debut single.
If I were you, I'd buy up a few copies of this release, because
if they do become rich and famous in the long run (which they deserve
to do on the back of quality music of this calibre), then this single
release might be worth a bob or two a few years down the line. Just
something to think about.

“Once I Was A Wolf....” the lyrics appear to chant – it's rabbit
in the headlights time again – You’re locked in before a wonderful
climatic crossway of themes drives home the grooves. This is
psychotic but subtle stuff, but more importantly it’s hugely original.

What a cool band name! The music ain't bad either - a mix of G 'N' R
attitude with modern rock catchiness.
'Between the Lines' is a catchy little ditty that will sit in your head for days and has rocks like a mutha!
'Lost In the City' is what G'N R would sound like now if Axl had
kept his head straight. Lovemat are not G'N R clones they just
possess that rock 'n' roll vibe and I would imagine they would slay
live! ****

Now here are five boys with their legs firmly astride the big beefy
God of Hellfire as it stomps it's way through the British music
scene, leaving a trail of grungey metal in it's wake, no less.

“Once I was a wolf”, sings Paul Kell of Geordie psychos Lovemat on B-
side ‘Lost In The City’. Once?! I would have guessed it was every
night between sun down and sun up. Both the tracks on offer here
sound like The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster rubbing themselves
inappropriately with Iron Maiden LPs. A night out with this lot
probably involves f**king everything that moves and eating, drinking
or snorting everything that doesn’t (or should that be the other way
around?). And, yes, they’re coming for you, your children and
probably your pets too. Sometimes its fun to be scared, isn’t it?
VANITY PROJECT
They’ve been thrown to
the wolves and come back alive albeit with a few injuries, when
they’ve healed and only scars are left and the balance is found,
Lovemat could hit the ground running.

Northern rockers Lovemat storm out with a tune that defies its peers
with a mixture of classic metal riffs, seventies rock rawness and a
sprinkling of indie to satisfy even the most cynical contemporaries.

THE RETURN OF THE BAT
Specimen will bring their special brand of glam mayhem, The Batcave to London again.
After last year’s wildly-successful 25th anniversary Batcave event, The Batcave returns to its original spawning ground of London’s West End on Sunday July 19 for another night of blasphemy, lechery and blood.
Specimen (Fresh from a fantastic show at Leipzig’s Waves Gotik festival), the original Batcave instigators will headline the lurid frolics at the Embassy Club, (29 Old Burlington St, London W1S3AP) Also on the bill are original Batcavers Sexbeat, with DJs Hamish and Cavey Nick, cavorting from decks to decadence with the usual brutal, trouser-dropping surprises & suitably confronting & barbaric entertainment.
The 2009 Batcave will feature installations from exciting new artists of the ‘Dark London Underground’ and visuals from the upcoming ‘Welco
