Formed in 2000 by Andy and Phil. Ian joined soon after on bass guitar. We recorded two CDs together: "Gentle Tyranny" EP (2001), "Halfback" (2002)
Ian left in mid 2003 to pursue a career in water aerobics instructing.
We found Grady on the internerd and he fit the bill for bass.
Two records with Grady: "Skin Failure" (2004), "Apertures" (2006).
Two European tours. Oct 2004 and April 2006. Countries: England, Scotland, Holland, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Slovenia, and Switzerland.
Grady moved to Canadia and we called it quits.
"San Francisco’s Lower Forty-Eight grips hard and heavy music with a tightened fist, determined to overtake its more expansive genres by storm. Compelling mathematically serious time signatures are drenched in the sweat of hardcore abrasiveness and proto-punk crazed abandon. Imagine Black Flag with heavier guitars and a desire to write impossible to follow rock tunes. Melodic skull-fracturing choruses that would make Helmet cringe for their nifty use of the distorted guitar, Lower Forty-Eight is a dynamic group that demands that heavy music pay attention."
Hey guys, hows it going? did you goto europe after tht newcastle show and dya reckon you'll come back? next time it'll be better, we promise, doesn't help when the line up keeps changing cos bands can't make shows. oh well. i hope your summer is going well, the weather here is suprisingly warm n london is hellishly hot, humid or like todays gonna be , jst right.
Thrice I neglected my hearing and had to take out my ear plugs to get the full benefit of the Lower Forty-Eight ruckus. Edinburgh, London, Den Helder. Unlike that Milton Keynes shopping precinct, it was minus 300% c*nt. And that's very very good!
my mum said never ever trust again americans driving you to the nearest and best kebab around, she just forgot to show us the way to turn on the engine of our van...
thanks for a great time in ipswich and so sorry for london.

When i was a kid, i used to think that there were tiny little bands inside my radio that played the music what came out of it. I have now decided i wouldlike you guys to be the little men in my stereo.
In the box thank you!!
Thanks for a cracking evening, me and the lads had a mint night, it was fun, we all felt a bit slack jawed and awed after your set. Come back soon, i'll make you a veritable feast of delicacies and fine desserts if you do. Promise!
Hey Andy (and company)...how is the search for a bass player going? Hope we will get to play some shows together soon, but in the meantime, I hope you guys can make it out to Bottom of the Hill tomorrow night. We are playing around 10:45. love, andafewtobreak
Wow..Just listened for the 1st time. It's pretty frickin rad. I've been a big Shiner and Failure fan and it reminds me of that stuff. Can't wait to catch it live. You guys rock... jen
