   About Low Life Records
LOW LIFE RECORDS - A brief biography

Based in Central London, Low Life is the UK’s longest established and most highly regarded Hip Hop label. Over the past 12 years Low Life has maintained the respect of not only the fans but also the artists who shape the Hip Hop scene by championing rap with a British accent and placing emphasis on quality presentation and progressive, genuine music. Low Life has slowly built a dedicated grassroots following and has continually outsold many bigger and higher profile labels.

Begun by a partnership of artists, Low Life is now owned solely by J. Christie aka Braintax whose reputation as an artist in his own right has helped bring into the fold some of the UK’s most respected and exciting artists such as Task Force, Jehst, Rodney P, Mystro and Skinnyman.

Over the last few years the resurgence of interest in the music and Hip Hop in general has escalated the label’s activity, sales have increased and profile is now maximised by a outsourcing press, club and radio promotion alongside the label’s own in-house promotions.

In 2000 Music Week named Low Life as ‘one to watch’, releases have continually picked up 4/5s and 5/5s in DJ magazine, HHC, Muzik, NME, The Independent on Sunday to name a few; there has been strong radio and club support from Tim Westwood, Mr. Scruff, Gilles Peterson, Steve Lamacq, BBC 1Xtra, Scratch Perverts and Hip Hop DJs across the UK and Worldwide.

With the release of Braintax’s highly acclaimed “Biro Funk” LP in 2001, Low Life finally took a step into album territory which was followed by the ‘Food’ label compilation in early 2003. 2001 also saw the birth of the first offshoot ‘Riddim Killa Records’ a venture between Low Life and veteran of the scene Rodney P (of London Posse) who will release his first ever solo album in 2004. Also upcoming are new album projects from Skinnyman, Braintax and a tightly knit group of new and exciting artists at the forefront of Hip Hop in the UK.

Low Life guarantee quality product every time and have proved that British Hip Hop can be powerful and stylish and can compete on all levels with Stateside product. Ultimately, we believe quality music speaks for itself.
