An innovative independent music label operating from a big computer and a telephone in a country town outside of Melbourne, AUSTRALIA.
Initially distraught over a nation-wide vinyl slump, LTI formed in 2003 and has since put a heap of local and overseas indie rock on the Australian musical map.
Simon & Darren are first and foremost fierce music lovers and have been since they were tykes. “We used to come up from Geelong and head to stores like AU-GO-GO and MISSING LINK to find the newest and greatest bands from around the world that no one else had,” founder Darren Smallman says. One such title, SONIC YOUTH’s "kill Yr Idols" 10 inch EP, even encouraged Darren to go out and form a legendary band called Warped.
“Always trying to outdo each other in the music nerd department, we’re attached to the ideologies of the independents, always seeking new and interesting music. We bring this same youthful enthusiasm to LOW TRANSIT INDUSTRIES as we feel it's our job to bring new, odd, punk, electro... well anything that's good and unique to your favourite record store.”
Slaves to the medium, LTI have done vinyl releases, CDs, ran a singles club and are currently running a touring company not to mention an on-line store. LTI Digital will showcase live recordings of their acts with B sides, unreleased music, downloadable video clips, mini documentaries made by the bands, ticket sales, blogs as well as selling band merchandise. It’s going to be cool.
The Future looks very bright for the team at Low Transit Industries, with the music industry taking new and interesting avenues in terms of its marketing, distribution and the whole listening to music thing as well. The label have assembled an excellent team of music lovers covering all the states and territories so LTI can be on the ground and involved with any new and evolving music that pops its head up.
