...like "LOXANDRA": Mediterranean, Balkan, oriental...
Please, in order to listen the following tracks, don't forget to turn off the above (myspace's)!
"Loxandra" ensemble was found in 1997 in Thessaloniki (Greece) from percussionist Loukas Metaxas and kanun player Dimitris Vasiliadis. Kyriakos Tapakis was also "Loxandra's" oud player from the beginning.
They start playing music from the "café aman", the places that the Rum people, (Greek immigrants from Minor Asia, Cappadokia and Istanbul), played the songs of Turkish "meyhane" (tavernas), after they came in Greece. That music, believed to be the "Mother of Rempetiko", the music of the Greek "underground" people.
Loxandra ensemble was the first band in Greece (after the second world war) that specialized in this kind of music, with the same instruments that used originally, like in the past!
(Without bouzoukis, lutes, guitars, modern drums etc, that came later in this music).
When the band reformed in 2003 from D. Panagoulias, D. Vasiliadis and L. Metaxas, they opened their music horizons playing also traditional music from several parts of Nothern Greece and Nothern Agean and Eastern islands that their instruments are used, along with a great deal of Mediterranean music despite Greek, like Turkish, Arabic, Balkan, Gypsy and Sefaradic traditional, Ottoman classical, music from Azerbaijan, Black Sea, Armenian and many other, with respect in tradition but with an approach of their own influences.
Members of "Loxandra" or as a band, they have work with musicians like : Ross Daly,Chicko Freeman,Nikos and Yasemi Saragoudas, Kariofillis Doitsidis, Kudsi Erguner, Ziad Rajab, Domna Samiou, Christos Tsiamoulis, Eleni Vitali,, Kostas Anastasiadis, Kostas Theodorou, Sokratis Sinopoulos, Katerina Papadopoulou and many others...

As gospellers have said, Beneath signalling skies, On land dusty to tread, A trough in a stable Was the strawy first-bed Of a divine baby - The forgiving Godhead.
A season for new hope - There then and here now; The yuletide of goodwill - There then and here now.
In respect of this chance, Beneath bright or dark skies, Faith's the star that we glance Attending Christ's churches And trying to enhance, With singing and ritual, Our God-loving stance.

After creating the World, the Gods wondered where they could hide the key of Life. One of them paused and said: “There is one place on earth where the Humans will never look. Their own heart”. Thanks for the add.

Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001
Where traditions are not so rare; Sea, country and works scent the air; A multitude of monuments, Planted tubs and patterned pavements.
The longish pedestrian malls; The remnants of defensive walls; Historic buildings are a gauge Of the respect for heritage.
Wheat, rape and pines in the fields; Estuaries guarded by shields; Long sandy beaches and wide scenes; Romantic-ruin go-betweens.
Rivers in parts licked by trees, Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries, And crossed by practical delights - Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.
Fine churches headed at Durham; Football kits ad infinitum; Kept castles - one for study; Masonry behind masonry.
And, with moulding-works out that way, It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?
