Books
Tolkien is a favourite but I also like most of Phillipa Gregory's stuff and Anya Seton, and I read all of Anne Rice's work during my teens... not something I'd reccomend to anybody.

About me: >>>>NOTICE TO BANDS<<<<<<<<
DO NOT ADD ME WITHOUT SENDING ME A MESSAGE: SUCH ACTION IS FUTILE.
So... about me?
I am a contract researcher within the School of Biological and Environmental Sciences at the University of Stirling. I investigate the microscopic properties of soil (soil micromorphology) from various types of archaeological sites which helps archaeologists understand how the soil was formed and what human activities were practiced in the area (burning, farming, metal working etc).
When I'm not working or chilling at home with the other half of me (Dougie) you'll normally find me out in the hills or attempting to bond with a rock face. I can't get enough of the countryside and I'm a bit obsessed with climbing.
I'm enjoy a good journey, even just for the journey's sake, I love the sense of freedom and escape from the hassels of the world travel can give.
Dom says I was born in the wrong century, he graciously pointed out I should be a child of the 800s AD so I can legitimately carry a battle axe and "clave peoples heads in twain" in pub brawls. Sounds about right! I don't mind tryin!
Technically this next bit should be under 'music' but its a bit qualitative for that so here it is.
When people ask me what music I like I always feel lost for words. There is an assumption that everyone fits into a nice little box which is labelled 'Rock' or 'Pop' etc and they should have a list of bands ready to reel off which they listen to everyday and of which they can name every song and every member along with their birthdays and the make of guitar they played when they were 17 etc. In my opinion, this is a load of rubbish. I like music. Music makes me feel alive, it lifts me up and it mellows me out. I am not a music geek, even when I have listened to a band for years its unlikely I know every song or own every album and you know what? I don't care!
I have a Led Zeppelin related tatto on my back which says more to myself as a 17 year old than to any obsession with the band. For the last ten years or so I have come to view myself as a fan of Motley Crue, Guns N Roses, Apoptygma Berzerk, The Sweet, Medieval Babes, Poison, The Levellers, Oasis and Carl Orff... At home I rarely listen to music because I have to work but in the car I am mainly listening to Hanoi Rocks, Faster Pussycat, Methods of Mayhem and the Marie Antoinette soundtrack (with artists such as Bow Wow Wow, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Aphex Twin, Adam & The Ants and New Order on it) at the moment.
I've seen tons of bands live but the ones which I enjoyed (eg didnt feel compelled to either go somewhere else or stick cotton wool in my ears - yes I am very critical and make no apology) are SMOKE AND THE COLLISION, Hanoi Rocks!!! SoHo Dolls, RunRig, Clear Blue Skies, Milamber, Dogtide, Sell the lexus-burn the olive tree,The Streets, Rachel Stamp, Paradise lost, Marylin Manson, Green Day, Bjorn Again, The Darkness, Electric six, Metallica, The Move, Good Charlotte, Bowling for Soup, Blur, Alien Ant Farm, PennyWise, Lagwagon, Alkaline Trio, System of a Down, Courtney Love, Stairway to Zeppelin, Fast Luck, Mavis, Futureheads, Mosquito, Zero, This Aint Vegas,The streets, New York Dolls, Offspring, Avenged Sevenfold, Therapy?, Funeral for a Friend, The Wildhearts, The Donnas, The Distillers, Reel Big Fish, The White Stripes, The Hives, The Pogues, The Rasmus, Dropkick Murphys, The Sex Pistols Experience, Trash Light Vision, 4ft fingers, Velvet Revolver, The Datsuns, Deadpad, BackYardBabies, Ginger and the sonic circus, Stonesour, Avenged Sevenfold, KoRn, Cradle of Filth, In Flames, Hatebreed, Dragonforce, 36 Crazy fists, Lacuna Coil, Prodigy, Bullet for my Valentine, Guns N Roses, Motley Crue!!, Europe, and Maximo Park who I also ate sushi with once.
...and now I realise I have said more about music than anything else. hmm. my blog is lmckenna.blogspot.com
