Background Information on LRCN
LRCN has been around Digitally Imported Radio (http://www.di.fm) for quite a while now. His interest in progressive trance and house music sparked his interest in DI Radio’s Progressive Channel where he has become a regular since it opened.
Roughly four years ago, he started to help Johan Nilsson gather new content for the Progressive Channel. Not only did LRCN help with the tracks and shows, but he also helped track down new DJs and artists who have made guest appearances or started their own shows. Since then, LRCN has become Johan’s co-director for the Progressive Channel.
LRCN has helped shape and mold the Progressive Channel to what it is today.
LRCN
When LRCN hits the decks, dancers and listeners can expect to move to the converging sounds of Progressive House/Trance, Tech House, Electro House, Deep House and Minimal. When feeling frisky, and only in the privacy of his home studio, he has been known to play his older Trance or Drum & Bass records.
Growing up on the Navajo Reservation, LRCN was inspired by artists of many backgrounds. While attending Middle School/Junior High he heard L.A. Style’s “James Brown Is Dead” along with other old school tracks, starting his love affair with dance music.
After High School he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. During the latter years of his enlistment he met DJs and mentors active in the Los Angeles scene – Jason Angel, DJ W and Alder. Hearing them, and being encouraged by friends, LRCN stepped up, “After seeing how they got a crowd moving and attending a number of events with other friends at the time, I decided that I wanted to give it a shot.”
To date, LRCN has played at L.A.’s Spundae & RED, Circus Disco, as well as the occasional cross-border gig in cities such as Minneapolis, Phoenix, Harrisburg, and Toronto to name a few. But, he is equally at home with the smaller venues, whipping up dancers at raves and private house parties from time to time.
Dance Pants
His musical inspirations are varied, including artists like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, and many other classic-rock acts.
Among the contemporary artists that influence his work are The Prodigy, Kraftwerk, The Crystal Method, The Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, Underworld, The Future Sound Of London, Fluke, Aphex Twin, and Orbital, not to mention Pole Folder, Derek Howell, Quivver, Sasha, John Digweed, Roland Klinkenberg, DJ Remy, Vibrasphere, Bs As Deep, Ray Mack, DJ Thee-O, and Darin Epsilon, to name only a few.
The Perfect Mix
LRCN hones his craft constantly, and isn’t afraid to listen to his work critically. His online Opus is impressive, which includes over 100 dance sets.
Whether creating guest mixes, solo series like The Bidness, Dispersion Of White Light, and Future Pants, or working collaboratively with other DJs like Ray Mack or Generation Trance (DJs GT and Project C), LRCN brings the dancer through a steady pulse of dance tracks, pulled together with smooth transitions and programming. “I try to focus on playing tracks that will keep the dancers moving and grooving, nothing boring”.
He has a few favorite sets including Delikat 013, finale for Jav D’s show April 2006 on DI.fm, BAT for his girlfriend on Valentine’s Day 2004, Groove Doctor (2003) and several of The Bidness mixes, which are all available for download from his website www.djlrcn.com.
Taking Care of Bidness
To pay the bills and put food on the table LRCN works full-time as an Audio/Video editor for a medical oriented company in Los Angeles. He is also Co-Director for DI.fm’s Progressive channel along with VP of Advertising & Program Director Johan Nilsson.
While he’s been busy mixing dance sets, LRCN hasn’t forgotten about production, “At some point I do plan on getting some original material out for the masses to get their groove on to.” Citing his friend and fellow artist, “I just need to ask my good friend Ray Mack to teach me the way of the buffalo, I mean drum, I mean teach me how to make a track.”
For anyone thinking they might like to try their hand at being a deejay, he advises, “Be sure it’s something you want to do for the music, yourself, and event attendees. Don’t do it for the wrong reasons. Practice, practice, practice.
