http://www.lambdalady.org/history.htm
The purpose of our organization is to create a support system for Latinas and the Universal Woman in higher education, through political awareness, social activism, service to the community, academic success, and the overall desire for advancement.
"Lambda Theta Alpha has contributed to the advancement of all people by helping to produce educated women of many races, ethnicities, and creeds... LTA has also paved the way for many other organizations, which would later pursue the empowering movement that we set the trend for. From 1975 to date, Lambda Theta Alpha has upheld its purpose and mission, each day realizing the Founder's dream—that it may serve as a quintessential trailblazer for all women."

"The Love The Ladies The Legacy"
"Mu Chapter
Founded in Nineteen Ninety Two
By four, diverse, sophisticated ladies who knew
That the empowerment of women could not wait
For Unity, Love & Respect was their ultimate fate..."
On April 26, 1992, four strong, independent, and multi-cultural women formed Mu Chapter at Ramapo College of New Jersey.
The founders were: Elizabeth Cosme-Alcalde, Marcia Brito, Vanessa Sampson-Najarro and Shannan M. Devine. They saw in Lambda Theta Alpha the true sisterhood they were looking for, the strong support for academic excellence, a base for community service and a way of uniting the races.
They believed that by bringing in a sorority that was Latina by Tradition, Not by Definition, they could overcome the racial gap felt at that time.
"...These ladies are original,
Stiriving for the best,
Putting their intellect and drive to the test
They represent the sisterhood with self respect and pride
Classy, beautiful ladies
Standing side by side." -Line Twelve

"In our modern society the wordy 'lady' is often used as a synonym to 'woman,' without any of its previous connotations. Still, we would like to see the word 'lady' retain some of its significance, not referring to an upper class in society, but to high class women in a mental or spiritual sense, who have manners and kindness of heart, and who behave in lady-like fashion, with style and dignity." -Author Unknown
