Interests

  • General

My interests are computers, gaming (video and roleplaying), comics, and libertarian to conservative politics. Right now, I'm playing on The Scryers server on World of Warcraft, Freedom and Triumph servers on City of Heroes, Recursion server on Matrix Online, and play role playing games on the weekend with my best friends.
  • Music

I listen to all sorts of music. I grew up listening primarily to 70s easy listening and country music. My high school and early college years were in the 80s, so I still listen to that. But I do listen to some modern music, some jazz, and some old-time crooners like Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra. Rap, though, is not my cup of tea.
  • Movies

I'm into both the Pixar-created movies (Toy Story, Incredibles), and superhero movies (Spider-Man, Batman series, Superman series, etc.) I am also fond of the James Bond movie series and some of the older war movies such as Midway and Kelly's Heroes. I do not go to the movie theater much these days, so I usually end up watching dvds my friends bring over on weekends.
  • Television

The only things I watch on television are sports, Doctor Who, Torchwood, and whatever my friends on Friday and Saturday nights flip on my televsion, for the most part. I will also watch cartoons and things like Whose Line Is It. I've never gotten into the police shows, or reality television shows.
  • Books

When I read books, I like fantasy, science fiction, and especially historical books. The Roman Empire is fascinating to me, so I read as much as I can about it. I'm currently reading a lot about the Renaissance. Medieval times, actually, does not interest me very much. The eras on either end of it (Rome/Renaissance) however do. And yes, I still read some comic books, primarily DC Comics.
  • Heroes

I'm an old comics junkie, so my heroes are those such as Superman and Batman. The one that seems to always come up with surveys is Green Lantern Hal Jordan as being the closest to me in personality. The other two heroes I have are my great uncle, who fought on Iwo Jima, and my dad, who went from growing up in the Dust Bowl era to owning his own company. Now, my dad is collecting cars and dragging me along on trips. Galleries of the pictures are on Picasa/Google (http://picasaweb.google.com/ltfngr)

About me:

Greetings. There are two things about me that stand out: I'm pretty much a geek, being that I'm into video games, online computer games, and roleplaying games (still); and the fact is I'm extremely shy when it comes to meeting new people. I decided to try MySpace for this, but please don't be discouraged if I try and brush you off...that is my shyness talking.

A little more about me: I'm a computer programmer, helping to do web sites for the City of Omaha and Douglas County Nebraska. I wrote two books long ago on roleplaying games, and I'm currently addicted to online games such as World of Warcraft and City of Heroes.

On the political side, I am a conservative. I used to be a member of the College Republicans, NRA, and Young Americans for Freedom, and I still help out political candidates when I can. I supported George W Bush for president, and although I don't think as highly of him any longer, it is for much different reasons - he's not conservative enough. For more on my politics, please visit http://www.davidlightfinger.com/wordpress or http://dontgomovement.com

I am an only child, and am very close to my dad. My mom passed away in June 2004 quite suddenly, and I am still trying to deal with that.

Other than that, I try to be a gentleman, though I do curse like a construction worker (blame my dad for that...he used to be an owner of a construction company). I also love historical books, especially those concerning Roman times.

I am a bit overweight, but nothing too major I don't think. I blame the fact I love all sorts of food, especially Italian. I, however, am not a cook by any stretch of the imagination. Being I have a sitdown job, however, means I do not get much exercise.

If I get over my shyness, I hope to meet some of you.

My current passion is the Heroes of Rokugan campaign (http://www.heroes-of-rokugan.com), a worldwide campaign based on the role playing game Legend of the Five Rings (http://www.legendofthefiverings.com). My character is currently Mirumoto Mochizuki, a Dragon clan bushi that has his eccentricities.

Who I'd like to meet:

I would like to meet people with the same interests as me: computers/computer gamers, roleplaying gamers, conservatives, and true libertarians. There are very few people that I've found that even come close, but I know that they are out there somewhere. Some day, I'd like to get a relationship going for more than a couple of dates. My shyness does not help me in this, and I've missed more than my share of opportunities I know. I turn into such a klutz, however, and combined with the fact I'm just a hopeless romantic means I am probably fated to always be the 'bridesmaid'.
