As a Portland native and a product of the '80s, Michael John acquired a strong attachment to art, design, film, animation, old macintosh computers, the intellivision gaming console, and producing music at a very young age. Being heavily influenced by artists such as Sade, Depeche Mode, Bob Marley, Luciano, Tei Towa, Thomas Fehlmann, and Autechre, Michael molded his own unique style, in which he produces under his moniker: Masmöd. In 2006, Masmöd was featured as 1 of 3 Diesel-U-Music shortlist finalists for the Electronic Music category out of thousands of participants in the USA.
In his debut album "Axiom", Masmöd takes the listener on a hauntingly gorgeous experience through the antithetic sounds of progressive urban movement and antiquity. Masmöd has mastered the art of atmospheric electronica and has produced a sonic sentiment that’s both intimate and ethereal. With throbbing beats, beautifully complex arrangements, and dark, moody textures, this album is tremendously evocative from start to finish.
