"The Luán Parle Story"
Luán (pronounced Lu-on) Parle was born in Wicklow, Ireland
She comes from a musical family. Her father is a musician as are her brothers. Her brother John is the drummer with Irish band Leopold who toured with James brown just before his death and have recently toured with Thin Lizzy.
Luán's confidence as a singer came from the training her father gave to the children who sang at Sunday
Mass at her local church. With this musical background,
Luán grew up with an early passion for The Judds, Martina McBride, Trisha Yearwood as well as a whole host of more contemporary artists including Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones. With an already distinctive name (from a French ancestor who was shipwrecked off the Wexford coast)
Luán began to develop her own vocal style early on and, a few months before her seventh birthday, won the first of a string of talent contests. She started playing the guitar at the same time and from then on there was no stopping her. Within three years, at age ten, she was fronting her own band
Her natural dauntless enthusiasm and unnerving confidence brought her gigs at hotels and bars. Before long,
Lu án had become a welcome fixture on the local music scene and, in spite of her tender years, was already making a name for herself as a professional singer. She took some of numerous opportunities to perform on radio and television including national appearances at the age of eleven on
top rated national Irish TV shows "The Late Late Show", "Kenny Live" and
"School Around The Corner".
Luán’s first recording came in the form of a cassette at age eleven which featured four tracks including two written by the youngster titled
“I Look up to the Sky” and “Little Children”
- Following on from which Luán released her first album at age twelve appropriately titled
“First Impressions”.
Throughout her teens there were two
Luán’s. One led a covers band… The other wrote and performed a growing catalogue of self written material.
Luán finished her education and whilst still a teenager released some EP’s including “When I See You Smile”.
There was some turmoil in the recording industry at that time with mergers and buyouts, which led to
Luán losing time on following up with a debut “adult” album.
Luán continued writing and over the next couple of years gained invaluable experience when asked to play as special guest to Elton John and to tour with the emerging James Blunt
She also worked in the US and UK & Ireland with legendary
producers, musicians and song writers including:
Chris Kimsey
Click Photo to Visit Chris Kimseys Official Website
Chris Kimsey is a record producer, musician & songwriter probably most famous for having co-produced The Rolling Stones' "Undercover" and "Steel Wheels" albums. He was also engineer on their 1971 album "Sticky Fingers" as well as 1978's "Some Girls" and 1980's "Emotional Rescue" and assisted Mick Jagger and Keith Richards closely in preparing 1981's "Tattoo You".
Other artists he has worked with include: Peter Frampton, Marillion, The Cult, Peter Tosh, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Johnny Hallyday, Diesel Park West, JoBoxers, Killing Joke, New Model Army, Ash, The Chieftains, Soul Asylum, Duran Duran, Yes, Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe, INXS and Moral Code X, and is credited for mixing the performances of Elton John, Paul McCartney and Cliff Richard & The Shadows on the Knebworth double album in 1990.
Recently, Chris has been the credited producer, mixer and engineer on the new album "High" by British post punk band New Model Army, which was released in June of 2007. Most recently, He has produced and engineered the debut release "The Getaway" by "Very Emergency" from Lexington Kentucky as well as the yet-to-be-named release by "Saint Jude from London"...
and of course Chris has worked and continues to work with Luán
Mike Japp
Mike Japp was born in South Wales in the UK. However, he moved to California for a long time. Japp was a member of Marmalade in the 70's and also appeared on Procol Harum member Mathew Fisher's solo releases. Marmalade were hugely succesful in the 60's & 70's with many hit singles in the UK & US. Following his departure from Marmalade Mike turned to songwrtiting including penning tracks for KISS, Gene Simmons (solo) and Bryan Adams. Mike is a stunning natural songsmith and a truly brilliant guitarist. In recent years his distinctive voice has also come to the fore on solo releases, particularily on the wonderful album "Dreamer".... When Luán and her management uploaded the songs currently on this page (2 years ago) it was decided to include some historical instrumental tracks produced / arranged by Luán and Chris Kimsey in London. These beautiful tracks are "Alright" (Japp), "Goodbye" (Japp) & "When I Didn't See At All" (Japp / Gries)... The songs are a showcase of Luán’s vocal and song interpretation ability. Mike and Luán continue to work together, collaborating on new material.
Hal Lindes

Website Hal Lindes was a member of Dire Straits for five years, working with Mark Knopfler on various groundbreaking albums including "Love Over Gold" and "Alchemy". Hal has since moved onto film composing, utilizing his distinctive guitar work as a powerful voice, and painting rich and evocative backdrops onto the screen images. Hal's scores have won various awards in Great Britain, including a Royal Television Society Award and a TRIC Award. The Press said about the TV sound track title for 'Between the Lines': 'The series gives the apocalyptic impression that crime is ruling supreme and that there is not much hope for society as a whole; an aspect which is appropriately underlined by the outstanding musical achievements of Hal Lindes"
Stephen Lironi
Stephen Lironi was a
founder member of precocious pop band Altered Images, Steve is a highly talented Scottish producer / writer and multi-instrumentalist, now based in London. In a 10 year production career he has produced hits for Black Grape, Fun Lovin' Criminals, Happy Mondays, Hanson, Bon Jovi, Babybird and Space amongst others.

singer songwriter James Murray, rockers Bricolage, Sandra Nasiac for SonyBMG Germany as well as spending time in the USA writing with a variety of top writers.
And of course Steve produced Luán's album "Free"
Bill Bottrell
Bill Bottrell is a record producer and songwriter based in Northern California. His work has produced 11 Grammy nominations, and his productions have sold more than 36 million records. He may be the only producer to have launched the careers of two Best New Artist Grammy-winners. In the '80s he worked with huge media stars like Michael Jackson and Madonna. He retreated to Pasadena near his home and built a radical new recording studio which allowed him the freedom to experiment with new economics and production methods. He was instrumental in popularizing the rootsier, simpler sounds in the '90s. He started a musical think tank with his friend David Baerwald and it came to be called the Tuesday Night Music Club. This loose collective produced huge hits and even bigger controversy. Attacks from the industry and the media led to the eventual breakup of the collective. Bottrell, retreating still further from the world's media capital, spent two years in seclusion in Albion, California, writing and playing local clubs. He stepped back into the mainstream in 1998, when he met Shelby Lynne. Together, they wrote and recorded the critically acclaimed album for Island Def Jam entitled "I Am Shelby Lynne." Robert Hilburn of the LA Times has called it the Album of the Year. Shelby Lynne received a Grammy for Best New Artist and Bill was nominated for a Grammy for Producer of the Year in 2000.
Billy Steinberg
Billy (William) Steinberg
is an American songwriter. He has achieved most of his success as part of a song writing team, most notably with Tom Kelly. He has also co-written several hit songs with Rick Nowels.
In his mid-20's formed the group Billy Thermal which was eventually signed to Richard Perry's Planet Records label. Their breakthrough occurred in 1980 when Linda Ronstadt heard their album and decided to record their song "How Do I Make You?" for her 1980 Mad Love album. The album hit the top three of the charts and went platinum. Ronstadt's version of their song reached the American top ten. In 1981, Steinberg wrote "Precious Time", the title track for Pat Benatar's Precious Time album; he also penned "I'm Gonna Follow You" that appeared on her second album Crimes of Passion the previous year.
Further success followed with the song "Like a Virgin," when it was played for Warner Bros. executives who thought that "Like a Virgin" would be perfect for Madonna.
Her version of the song spent six weeks at number one in the United States in 1985, and became a worldwide hit. The success of the partnership continued with more number one singles "True Colors" (recorded by Cyndi Lauper), "So Emotional" (by Whitney Houston), "Eternal Flame" (by The Bangles) and "Alone" (by Heart). Some of their other hits include "In Your Room" (The Bangles), "I Drove All Night" (recorded by Cyndi Lauper, Roy Orbison and Celine Dion), "I Touch Myself" (the Divinyls), "Sex as a Weapon" (by Pat Benatar), and "Look Me in the Heart" (by Tina Turner). They also wrote several songs with Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders, including the top-ten single "I'll Stand By You".
In the mid 1990s Steinberg began writing with Rick Nowels, who had previously established himself as a songwriter for such artists as Stevie Nicks and Belinda Carlisle. Their greatest success of the period was the Céline Dion recording of "Falling Into You" for which they won Grammy Awards.
Steinberg continues to write songs. Steinberg and Alexander's recent work includes JoJo's 2006 single "Too Little Too Late" and Katharine McPhee's "Over It" in
2007
The experience she was gaining working with the cream of producers and session musicians was invaluable in taking
Luán to a level where she could and often did co-produce her work
At this stage Luán was already well on the way to becoming a very astute businesswoman and decided to set-up her own company to control the resources she had to work with. The good early advice from her parents paid off as she could now manage her own business having the necessary accounting, budgeting, organisational and Information Technology skills
Luán then hooked up with UK producer
Stephen Lironi – Bon Jovi, Altered Images, Lloyd Cole etc. to create the album “Free”
After some delay
“Free” was finally released in
early 2007 to great critical acclaim
This was swiftly followed by the
2007 Meteor Award for “Best Irish Female Artist” and the album was short listed to the final three (with Snow Patrol & Duke Special) at Northern Irelands
“Big Buzz” Entertainment Industry Awards.
Luán won an award at the lavish Belfast ceremony for
“Most Stylish Female Entertainer”
Luán and her management decided to set out on a national tour. What started as 10 dates in
2007 finished as 80 dates into 2008. A big intentional part of the tour was performances in Arts Theatres nationwide where no age restrictions applied. This tied in with another passion of
Luán’s. To coincide with these concerts she provided secondary school song writing workshops and invariably had students guest for her at the shows. The tour was a huge success
In amongst the general tour dates Luán guested for INXS, toured with
Nanci Griffith, Played the
Midlands Music Festival, Headlined the Oxjam charity gigs in Dublin and Belfast and headlined the Marie Keating Foundation fundraiser in the Hard Rock Café, all to great acclaim. Nanci and her band stood side stage for her set each night on the tour and they could not believe she was not a huge name in America. INXS said they were “blown away” by her performance
The tour, which was a major but sucessful undertaking for a solo Irish artist, gave another indication of
Luán’s ability to manage other than the creative side of her career. Yet another testament to the brains behind the beauty!
All through the year Luán’s myspace started to grow at a phenomenal rate. Luán
is now the most played Irish Female artist on Myspace and is
the 4th most played
artist overall. Plays now
exceed 2.5 million and fans added exceed 20,,000
In November 2007 Luán was honoured with the Tatler Award for “Music woman of the
Year”. It was a great end to a great year for the young Wicklow woman and a fitting tribute for all the hard work.
In 2008 Luán had a top 10 hit single
with "Ghost"
which remained in the Irish singles chart for over 3 months. This succcess saw
the album "Free"
reenter the charts and also remain there for over 3 months. Luán
also picked up two new awards: The "Big
Buzz" entertainment industry "Best
Female Performer" and the "Balcony
TV" "Best Female Video"
For 2009 Luan is concentraing on her new album with a view to global
release.
The Luán Parle story continues apace!

SOME REVIEWS
“Given half a chance she could seduce the World"
(Paul Byrne – Irish Independent – National Daily)
""This vibrant artist creates an emotive, fresh landscape full of fantastic ideas, elusive imagery, beautiful song writing and magnificent sounds. She is a God-send, Luán is a fabulous singer with a fresh beautiful and rocky sound and stands out with individuality and a thirst for success that has yet to be quenched"
(Maverick Magazine)
"Parle's brand of music is both engaging and commercial. One can imagine Shania Twain having a major hit with a track like “Free”.
(John Meagher – Irish Independent – National Daily)
"Luán Parle is quite simply one of the most exciting singers to emerge from Ireland, or any other country for that matter, in a good few years. She has been compared to Stevie Nicks (amongst others) and there's certainly a similarity when she lets her vibrato loose at full throttle, but in terms of depth, subtlety and sheer vocal range to this writer's mind she beats Nicks hands down!! She is a superb song smith as well"
(Sarah Mcquaid - Evening Herald – National Daily)
"Luán Parle combines a glossy blend of contemporary / alt. Country, Folk, Pop & Rock. With her stunning looks, wonderful stage presence and obvious talent Parle could well be the next big star"
(Colm O'Hare - Hot Press Magazine – Ireland’s premier music magazine)
"This wonderful Singer / Songwriter seems to have her eye on the UK and US Markets. Songs such as "Free" & looking through the back door" are perfect"
(Danny McEllhinney – The Daily Mail – National Daily)
"There are (prudent) bets that this hotly tipped Irish Singer Songwriter will break into the big wide world!"
(The Irish Times – National Daily)
"Luán Parle looks set for world stardom!"
(Eddie Rowley - The Sunday World – National Weekly)
"Parle is a major force to be reckoned with. Watch this space."
(In Dublin Magazine)
"Her voice is exquisite. It's a voice that you don't forget quickly. Luán does something not too un-similar to what Sheryl Crow or The Dixie Chicks do, except Luán does it better!"
(Bianca Luykx - TV Now Magazine – National Weekly)
