I was born in a small town called Brno in what was then called
Czechoslovakia. When I was six my parents took me and my brother
on vacation to what was then called Yugoslavia. What they didn't
mention to us or our family or friends (due to the risk of being
turned in) was that we weren't coming back, well at least not until
the current government was overthrown. So my father somehow
erased stamps in our passports so we could get into Austria and
claim refugee status. As huge a risk as it was, things went according to
plan and after a year and a half we finally settled in Vancouver,
Canada.
My dad was a blacksmith by trade but also a well respected
musician back home and there was always some kind of a
hootenanny goin on at our place. So when I was twelve I started
playing guitar, by fifteen I was playing the bars with a highschool
band called "Terror of Tiny Town". We put out three cd's toured
Japan, Europe, Canada and the US. After eight years we all kinda
got sick of each other and I started my band the "Big Rig Sweeties".
We were probably the loudest band in town and put out two cd's
and again toured all over. I sold some songs to video games and
TV shows and also had a small hit with the song "Big Toy's & 4x4's".
I stared doing solo acoustic shows after a tour of Europe with the
band was cancelled, following 9/11. I got comfortable with the idea
and in 2003 recorded my first solo record "Parts for Sale".
I called my friend Kenny Aronoff to play drums, he's really
cool and has played with John Mellencamp, Melissa Etheridge
and many others. A few other friends helped out and I have been
a solo artist ever since.
I started working with German labe United One Records in '04 and touring Europe quite a bit. In March '06 my pal/producer Allen Rodger and I flew out to New York and shacked up in a friends beach house in Rockaway Beach...yes the same one the Ramones song is about..we recorded ten songs for my new record "Hotel La Rence".We stuck a microphone out the window for the cool mellow sounds of the Atlantic Ocean, bought a case of red vine and a carton of Marlboro's and got down to work...what we ended up with is a nice little "hangover Record" as I like to refer to it.
More recently I recorded a colection of songs off my previous two albums with my band "The Banned". We did ten songs live off the floor at Pilot Studios in New York. The album features Larry Oakes (Bad Co/Foreigner) ..s, Tony Tino (gavin Degraw/ Southside Johny and the Asbury Jukes) on Bass, Mark Greenberg (Dickey Betts) on drums and Allan Rodger producing and playing guitar.
All my records are available on ITUNES and CDBABY. Check out the tunes above.
Best, Luba
