Luca Luciano, clarinettist and composer, is a “classically trained Italian virtuosoresident in London" also University Lecturerof both jazz and classical Clarinet at the Leeds College of Music and very much appreciated in the UK and overseas for his unique style ("Masterful Clarinet!" by Musician Magazine) and the quality of his compositions also quoted in books about the clarinet repertoire. He starts his career at a very young age (only twelve) performing at one of the most prestigious and ancient concert-halls of his home town Naples, appears on television nationwidelive aged twenty-one and quickly establishes himself as one of the most interestingtalents in the UK and Europe. He is extrmely appreciated within the classical and improvised music scene, received a Bachelor in Music at the Conservatoire of Salerno (Italy) and a post-graduate-course on music entrepreneurship founded by the ECC. His repertoire encompass Weber, Brahms, Copland, Stravinsky and jazz music with a strong belief in promoting contemporary music.
Besides masterclasses and educational events, he is mainly active a concertist/composer, touring extensively the UK and abroad. In the past few years he has been focusing on his own music performing at venues as diverse as: St Martin in the Fields, National Portrait Gallery of London, the King's Hall Newcastle, St James’s Piccadilly, National Theatre of London, “Teignmouth South Devon Jazz Festival” 2003/05/08,“London Jazz Festival”, “Politeama Theatre” in Naples, “Giugliano International Jazz Festival 2001” Italy (which featured Mike Stern, E. Rava, E. Pierannunzi), “Centro Studi Erich Fromm” in Naples and many more.
His technique and knowledge of both the jazz and the classical repertoire has allowed him to experience TV performances (recording for RTE national TV broadcast of Ireland, live nationwide at RAI2 as guest soloist and arranger, local TV programs); solid studio sessions experience recording for several productions and also for Amnesty International and for the singer Sergio Bruni (arguably the most famous traditional Neapolitan singer in the world); orchestra (“Cork Opera Works” EIRE in the 2005, at the “Diana Theatre of Naples 1996/97/98) and chamber music.
His discography includes: “Passione” (MAP 2000, Italy) with original compositions together with the third movement of Poulenc’s Sonata for clarinet and pianoforte; “Neapolis” (Red Kite Records 2005, UK) which includes only his own material organized in two suites for clarinet and pianoforte or for clarinet trio/quartet; “Clarinet” (MCPS 2008, UK) including original compositions for solo clarinet and clarinet ensemble together with the Stravinsky’s “Three Pieces for Clarinet Solo".
