The Lucas Sader Project is a Winnipeg-based group committed to producing a fresh outlook on jazz music. Drummer, composer, arranger and bandleader Lucas Sader heads up the ensemble, which also features trumpeter Derrick Gardner, tenor saxophonist Niall Bakkestad-Legare, pianist Will Bonness and bassist Karl Kohut. Sader, Bonness, Kohut and Bakkestad-Legare are all quickly establishing themselves as top players on a national level while Gardner is a world-renowned trumpeter having worked with a wide variety of artists including the late Dizzy Gillespie, The Count Basie Orchestra and Tony Bennett to name a few. The Project's latest show concept is titled Nineteen Sixties: A Tribute to the Miles Davis Quintet. Through performing the legendary quintet's original compositions and arrangements of jazz standards, as well as new arrangements by Sader, Nineteen Sixties aims to pay homage to one of the most innovative groups and bandleaders in the history of jazz.
