Lucia is an indie singer-songwriter & pianist from Sevilla, Spain who’s based in Los Angeles. Her style has been described as impressionist-pop, and 20’s Jazz with a cinematic feel.
Drawing comparisons to Feist, Emiliana Torrini and Björk, Lucia continues to spark interest in music circles at home and abroad, earning her a place in the top 100 unsigned artists by Music Connection Magazine. “Lucia is a disarming performer and intriguing live act thanks to her natural talent,” the magazine stated, “Iman shows obvious promise… she is someone to keep an eye on.”
Lucia’s sophomore album “Tame the night” will be released November 2009. The culmination of two years of hard work, the album was funded thanks to the belief and support of 903 fans, through the crowd-funding concept Sellaband. $50,000 was raised to finance the album.
Securing the Grammy-award winning producing talent of Malcolm Burn (Bob Dylan, Jeff Buckley, Rachael Yamagata, Daniel Lanois), “Tame the night” was recorded in upstate New York in his studio earlier this year.
“I wanted to make an introspective album that established my own sound. A sound that is intimate and visually evocative, yet within a pop structure,” Lucia explains.
A stellar group of musicians contributed to the project: drummer Ethan Eubanks (Ivy, Norah Jones), trumpetist Dan Brantigan (Kaki King), violinist/arranger Kailin Yong and guitarist Mark Axiak.
The record will be released through major online retailers, and Lucia will be touring the US and Europe to support its release.
Lucia started playing classical piano as a young girl in Madrid’s Real Musical conservatory, and later started working as a session vocalist in some of the city’s top recording studios. After moving to Malibu, she was accepted into the renowned Berklee College of Music in 2000, studying with teachers like Marlon Saunders (Michael Jackson, Bobby McFerrin, Sting) and Livingston Taylor (James Taylor).
In 2003 she moved back to Los Angeles, and her songwriting career began unfolding while performing at venues of such stature as the Shrine Auditorium and Carnegie Hall, as well as clubs like The Temple Bar, Harvelle’s, Tangier and Genghis Cohen.
In response to audience demand in Northern California, Lucia toured California and Oregon in the fall of 2006. She also went on her first European Tour in the spring of 2008 to promote her self-titled debut album. Playing in London, Bristol, Paris, Montpellier, Amsterdam, Madrid, Bremen and Tenerife, she garnered public acclaim at live shows and radio appearances.
Lucia’s music has been featured on TV shows such as Showtime’s The L Word, in radio stations worldwide and in documentaries (A Day in the Dirt). She has performed and collaborated with the likes of bassist Abraham Laboriel (Stevie Wonder) and violinist Scarlet Rivera (Bob Dylan).
Gearing up for Tame the Night release in November, she’s currently promoting the album with live shows and radio appearances, while seeking an independent label.
“Lucia can really hold an audience spellbound with a well sung ballad. From the instant Lucia opens her mouth, she reaches right through the listeners ear and takes a firm hold of the heart. Lucia Iman is a cut above. She is not looking for an identity or grasping at styles. She is a viable artist, ready to make an impactful album of sensitive songs.”~The Bottom End, Los Angeles
