LUCKENBACH TEXAS- Is an out of the way hill country hamlet preserving a rich piece of Texas history representing the periods of the 1880's, 1920's, and 40's-providing entertainment while promoting music, history, folklore and humor. Luckenbach was established as a Trading-Post in 1849 and consists of a Dance Hall, Beer Joint, and General Store on 10 acres surrounded by huge oak trees. Luckenbach became a favorite of Texas entertainers after the late folk humorist, Hondo Crouch, bought the place in 1970. Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson brought Luckenbach to its ultimate worldwide fame with their hit song. "Luckenbach Texas"-1 on the country charts for six weeks! The legendary Dancehall still hosts monthly dances by some of the best Texas musicians going, many of whom were toddlers when Viva Terlingua and “Luckenbach Texas” became hits. Texas minstrels such as Pat Green, Gary P. Nunn, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Billy Joe Shaver and their audiences come to partake of the timeless ambiance, the cold beer, and the increasingly rare sense of being in the center of the known universe, a place where everybody is truly somebody!
