Every Tuesday night at 7pm, rockstars, vagrants, poets, musicians, jammers, and artists gather at the Lucky Cat in Williamsburg to strut their stuff & share their music. The open mic is hosted by singer/songwriter Mike Schrieffer. If you want to play music for an audience full of musicians, this is the place to be.
The Lucky Cat comes equipped with a small stage, a Yamaha piano, microphones, a PA, and the guitars its host brings. Feel free to bring instruments, or just walk in and talk someone into letting you rock out on theirs. Sometimes somebody shows up with a digital camera or occasionally a video camera, so your video or picture might show up on this page! If you have your own footage or pictures, feel free to post them as a comment or send an email to request that we add it as a blog.
Covers, originals, and improvisations are all welcome- any type of expression is appreciated. The only thing we'll scoff at is those who ate dinner before they came. The Lucky Cat chefs serve gourmet personal pizzas, excellent panini, and other amazing dishes, and if you're crazy enough to eat before you show up, you'll end up eating twice cuz the food is irresistable. So save your appetites, flex your calloused fingers, and show up. See you there.

Yeah, I'm totally that dick who doesn't go to the open mic for a month and then shows up the week of his showcase. Sorry. Don't get a job kids. I hope everyone's been well.

I just wanted to let you know I have reached 2000 friends ....so let this be a thank you for being one of them and doing what all good friends do by NOT caring.
anyway, Ive been really into slam poetry and have been performing around NYC at such events.
Heres a sample of something i might do at a slam:
" i then go into this coffeehouse and strike up a conversation
with this other writer about why men always have to do the hunting for women.
he takes out this half empty bottle and this half empty cup and says
"the bottle is the man and the cup is the woman
and the liquid inside is their hearts.
now their hearts are not gonna be complete until they find each other"
and then he asks me how i would go about doing that.
so i told him that i would pour the bottle into the cup.
he says "why not the other way around?"
and i reply "less chance of a spill" and he says "exactly......
see when a woman pours her heart into a man it just gets broken
and most of it spills on the floor, but when a man pours his heart
into the woman, the woman accepts ALL of him."
I like the before & after pictures of Eddie: beard & no beard. What will he suprise us with tomorrow? Will he go with the Rip van Winkle or the Smooth Operator??
The Lucky Cat welcomes bands and solo artists. But what about people who are both at once?? Do you have a cloning device or a time machine handy at the open mic for those of us who want to perform all the parts at once live??
waaaa ! Last night was a blast. sorry my video ran out of batteries... but i got some great shots of Isabella, Damien, Azul, Jeremy and more to come. No my video was silly experiment in cello, guitar, voice craziness... i gotta iron that song out!
Jezebel's open mike is always chock full of local and not-so-local (manhattan) talent. Always fun. And the food is great. Did I mention the cook is hot!!
Hey all! You guys played amazingly well last night! I thoroughly enjoyed everyone's performance. There was a lot of variety, which was refreshing. Can't wait till next Tuesday! See you all then. Ciao!
