Weathered from years of artificial pop glossed as the rhythm and soul of middle America, The Lucky Suns have chosen to blaze a new trail to the hearts and minds of the contemporary music world. The Suns’ uniquely blend the roots of Appalachia with the dirty rawness of a downtown street corner. The result is a dense atmosphere of Americana music that fits as perfectly on a Louisiana back porch as it does a suburban bedroom.
They formed in the Summer 2006. With Dru Deiner's ambitious vision of a true American roots sound, he started off with a harmonica and a guitar, then teamed up with Tim Fenimore, who brought an electric guitar and some fine songwriting skills to the table. The pair soon hooked up with pedal steel guitarist Houston McCoy, who immediately gave the sound a stamp of authenticity by using an instrument that is hard to find in the big city “and even harder to learn!” states Houston. “There’s only a handful of guys who play pedal steel in Seattle and even fewer who teach it. My teacher was 75 and he died last year.” Leaving Houston with a wealth of knoweldge and the blessings to bring the sound to a new generation of music fans. The rhythm section is manned by Colorado transplant (and fine bass player to boot), Derek Medina and drummer Nick Salzetti who holds down the fort.
The group breathes new life into a tried and true American sound while producing flavors that the musical outlaws of past generations would be honored to hear.
The Lucky Suns, today infused with the past, have created the new highway that bypasses the wreckage of a failed music format. With a fine arsenal of original songs as well as a few known and obscure covers (Neil Young’s Heart of Gold being one of the former) the group will be bringing their road show to the stages of the Great NorthWest this summer.
