=> THE REALITY: With a namesake derived from '80s cult band The Sisters of Mercy, Shakespeare/Livy-penned poetic biography, and 16th c. Borgia legend, Boston, Massachusetts' musicians Lucretia's Daggers blend darkwave, synthpop, and futuristic metal with haunting female vocals and have brought an arty touch to their "dark lyrical electro-rock for the apocalypse" since August 2001. Combining passionate, confessional, introspective lyrics a la Fiona Apple and The Dresden Dolls; all the quirk and inventiveness of XTC and Brian Eno; mixed with the raw angst of Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson; LD is gaining a cult following for its shows and first full-length album, Sad Flower Songs, released independently in February 2006 on Pretty Poison Productions.
=> THE MYTH: In the summer of 2005, sonic alchemist/guitarist Futurist Tarquinius, anti-matter being from the year 3969 AD, placed an ad in local rock magazine, Performer, to which the unsuspecting founder of Lucretia's Daggers, responded. Thus began the transformation of the band, during which its vocalist/lyricist reincarnated into Lucretia X. Machina, the future version of the chaste 500 BCE heroine who stabbed herself to death upon a rape by her unholy nemesis, Sextus Tarquinius, FT's predecessor. Futurist's disguise would be complete first as her new guitarist, then as the band's sonic-alchemist/sound engineer/drum programmer, when Elucid took his place as the band's lead guitarist in March 2007.
=> THE BIO: As of February 2008, Lucretia’s Daggers is lead guitarist Elucid, bassist Odetta Mo Excrucior, and the band’s founder and lyricist/vocalist Lucretia X. Machina. Combining passionate, confessional, introspective lyrics a la Fiona Apple and The Dresden Dolls; all the quirk and inventiveness of XTC and Brian Eno; the power of Steve Vai and John 5, mixed with the raw angst and politics of Nine Inch Nails and System of a Down, LD is gaining a cult following for its shows and first full-length album, Sad Flower Songs, released independently in February 2006, and its single "Tragedy", which appears on the Sky So Grey Boston dark music compilation, released January 2009.
