I love to sing and to play my guitar and to write songs. I'd like to do these three things all the time but unfortunately I have to spend 37.5 hours of my time every week working for "the man".
I like to fingerpick and to listen to the rhythms and patterns in words. I like to rhyme and I dig any kind of music that gives me a funny feeling inside. I'm probably a little bit too deep for my own good but I'm quite stoical about that.
I made an album and I called it "No Ball Games" if you give me some money then I'll give you a copy. I've got a few other musical projects going on at the moment, but these are secret for the moment so hush.
Let me know what you think of my tunes, be honest now, I can take it.

You were up very late, young lady. I hope it was a good night.
Mr P was in the country earlier in the year. I couldn't make it. I had exams. Tried to get my parents to go but they are a bit slow to react. They should've booked the tickets in 1968, stuck 'em on the fridge. Did you get to see him? I just love his new version of 'Lyndon Johnson told the Nation'. It's perfect.
Aww, that did make me feel better! It's weirdly comforting to know that there are people thinking about me 9,500 miles away. And all the mother flippin' gangsta rappers most certainly drink tea.
well it's okay. I am on super strong painkillers which has not been as fun as I thought it might be, and that drinking on such things is a very BAD idea. we should be poorly together, I have had Ben over and he is ill too, it must be something in the water. x
“ It is a joyful noise that leaves genres completely redundant.” Q MAGAZINE
“a rough-hewn, psychedelic-pastoral gem…” THE INDEPENDENT
“This is the kind of music to bring on the rapture..” THE STOOL PIGEON
“Akron tracks are a revelation.” UNCUT
“It would take a cold heart not to be moved by the psychedelia tinged rock 'n' roll pleasures of these performances.” THE WIRE
"Akron/family are...now roaming all over a wide, open space where antique folk balladry, primal drone and explosive improvisation meet and melt in a woodland psychedelia that answers an age-old musical question: What if Pink Floyd gave birth to Ummagumma in The Band's basement at Big Pink?" - Rolling Stone
For those of you who have seen my simpering, slavishly devotional Akron/Family blurbs and press releases in the past, wherein I make ridiculous claims about them (which I happen to believe!), it should come as no surprise when I reiterate they are one of the best bands on the planet. I dont recall seeing such fantastic live shows ever, except maybe Pere Ubu at the Whiskey in LA circa 1978 or Ummagumma-era Pink Floyd circa 1968/9. Take those unrelated reference points and mix in The Beatles, Chicago Art Ensemble, CCR, The Grateful Dead, The Hollies, The Butthole Surfers, Led Zeppelin, and you might get a notion - probably not. Anyway, thier new record, 'Love Is Simple' (Young God Records) comes the closest to bridging the gap between the chaos, rock action, tribal bongo-banging and sentimental sing-alongs of their live shows and the necessarily more cerebral, or at least worked-over and layered process of recording in the studio
Diane Cluck @ The Retreat (Side entrance, St Vincent de Paul Society, Newbridge Street, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, NE1 2TQ) Sat 1st Sept. 8pm. £6.
This is a small intimate show, please arrive early to avoid disappointment.
Diane Cluck is a New York-based singer-songwriter affiliated with the Anti-folk scene centered around open mic nights at the Sidewalk Cafe. She has recorded five albums since 2001. Her music is more sophisticated than many artists' of the genre, played using acoustic guitar, piano, organ and xylophone. Her influences are specific: Kate Bush, Chopin (when she used to play classical) and early twentieth century composer Erik Satie. She appreciates his very beautiful minimalist piano stuff, works that he is most famous for and are among her favorites. She is lately occupied in creating "skeletons," of songs, songs that are actually capable of standing up and walking around with as little adornment as possible. Her current body of work she considers very wordy: lots of words and too many notes. Diane's album 'Oh Vanille / ova nil' ended up #2 underground album of the year in Mojo magazine 2005. She has collaborated with both Jeffrey Lewis and Herman Düne in the past. Barry Bliss and Beth Jeans Houghton support.

Hey Lucy. It is so nice to hear from you. I see you have some brand new tunes up. I am blown away by each of them. And I really love "Crap Boyfriend Song". I think you said that quite eloquently, and there is no doubt how you felt when you wrote that, huh? I loved it. I certainly know that feeling. Anyway, I love your voice, your picking and your songs. Thanks again for writing.

Voice of the Seven Woods (UK) is the extraordinary project of 25 year old multi-instrumentalist Rick Tomlinson, and has existed as anything between a solo and five piece line-up both in the studio and on the live stage. Thanks Lucy for adding me. What a beautiful voice. I saw in the band members section where you said "Well, you see, there's just me". Well, Lucy, that's just all you need. All the best.
