Amongst many in no particular order; Tom Paxton, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, The Decemberists, Elliot Smith, James Taylor, Bob Eaglesham, Mississippi John Hurt, The Corries, Devendra Banhart, Belle and Sebastian, Leonard Cohen, Simon and Garfunkle, Kasabian, Pentangle, Dr Hook, Grizzly Bear, Woody Guthrie, Peatbog Faeries, Neil Young, The Who, The Stones, Eliza Carthy, If you can get hold of a record called 'Don't Panic' by Pete Scott thats pretty ace, Ben Folds, Beta Band, Lindisfarne, Bobby Eaglesham, The Corries, Stefan Grossman, Doc Watson, Viking Moses, The Sky Green Leopards, JSD Band, Ben Holland, Voice of the Seven Woods, Fairport Convention, Nick Drake, Love, Marissa Nadler, David Bowie, erm, anything really...suppose it just depends on how I'm feeling.
I love to sing and to play my guitar and to write songs. That's what you'll mostly find me doing.
I'm also doing an MA in Music and Education at Newcastle University. I'm particularly interested in issues regarding how social class affects the way in which we participate in musical activities..... Oooh and also psychedelia..... and I like to wonder about the different steps that artists take to retain autonomy over their music too.... If you've any thoughts on these issues then drop me a line.
I've also got a little side line in the form of Blacke Moss. We're special but modest so, hush.
I like to fingerpick and to listen to the rhythms and patterns in words. I like to rhyme and I dig any kind of music that gives me a funny feeling inside. I'm probably a little bit too deep for my own good but I'm quite stoical about that.
I made an album two years ago and I called it "No Ball Games" if you give me some money then I'll give you a copy.
Let me know what you think of my tunes, be honest now, I can take it.
Hi Lucy. Hope you are well!! Thank you for your friendship. I have enjoyed very much listening to your music. You have a lovely voice and beautiful songs. XX Franka
She came, she saw, she was slightly hungover.. Yet still she knocked em bandy? That's the tonic. Thank you kindly Miss Pickard for such a great set at The Polite Room.. I'm welling up, I've got to go.. you guys.
Lucy, you're playing this on Sunday evening aren't you? That's right, yes. And it's at the Bridge Hotel you say? Interesting. Starts 7.30 and only costs three pounds to get in? Excellent. And that money goes to the Parkinson's society as well! Wow. AND there's loads of other cool people playing? Man. I want to go... ps but only if there's a raffle.pps, there IS a raffle... life is so sweet.
After you've finished here, you may like to hear this poem sung on myspace...
Poem 2 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): WALKABOUT WITH MY PEN
Once drove an old sedan, up north, From a place in Sydney to Cairns; Then to Kuranda I went forth, By train, to look without set plans.
I browsed through the trendy market, With fresh fruits of tropical kind; Walked to the creek through lush thicket - Nature’s hand giving peace of mind.
I dined in a scenic cafe; Then, outside, as I wrote for yen, Some passing Kooris called-out: “Hey, You go walkabout with your pen.”
Request or question, I don’t know - Assured voices, elderly men. That’s now several years ago, And I’ve seen the world - with my pen.
Hi Lucy greetings from Brittany. Many thanks for your music and friendship. We are really excited to be playing in your part of the country next Sunday. All the best, Rosie
