Biography

Lucy Schwartz recently released a 6-track EP called Keep Me and is currently working on her third full-length album—due out in 2012!

Schwartz is a 22-year-old Los Angeles-based artist, with big dreams, a colorful imagination, and a knack for writing songs that translate to the big screen. Her music has graced movie theaters and TV sets all around the world. Lucy says, “What I love most about the challenge of writing for film is that you have to put yourself into the lens of a different character and always end up with a song that you would never have written otherwise. One form of art inspires another form of art“. Most recently, she co-wrote a brooding medieval ballad entitled, “Cold”, with British artist Aqualung, for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1. Lucy began writing songs for films when she was a teenager in high school. At age 18 she wrote both the opening-title song and end-credit song for the Meg Ryan film The Women. Since then, she has written original songs for Shrek Forever After, Mother & Child, Post Grad, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 and had music featured in the films Monte Carlo, Adam, and a multitude of television shows. She also penned the international theme song for NBC's show Parenthood. Plus, Fun Fact: The fake-British-chanteuse of “Mr. F” and “For British Eyes Only” on Arrested Development is, in truth, the voice of Lucy.

Lucy Schwartz toured with Lilith Fair alongside Sarah McLachlan and Sheryl Crow and has opened for Moby, The Weepies, Brandi Carlile, The Civil Wars, A Fine Frenzy, Agnes Obel, Toad the Wet Sprocket and The Belle Brigade.

Lucy is also dedicated to making the world a better place through music: she has worked with Charity Water, CHOC Children's Hospital, Rock n Roll Camp for Girls, WriteGirl, Songs of Love for Japan, and Symphony of Hope: The Haiti Project, Charity Water and hopes to continue to be involved in projects that bring hope, light, and laughter to others.

AN INTERVIEW WITH LUCY:

About having co-written the duet "Cold" for the Twilight Soundtrack

I'm very excited about being a part of the Twilight Soundtrack! As a Twilight fan and vampire/fantasy nerd myself, I am over-the-moon about it! And getting to work with Matt Hales (A.K.A. Aqualung) was special for me, because he is one of my favorite songwriters and quite an amusing chum. When we wrote the song, we were contemplating vampires, (which is always step 1 in every professional songwriting session—contemplating vampires) and thinking about how ancient they are, and how most of the Twilight vampires were born in a different era, long ago. We wanted the song to feel like it was from another time-period and the words to feel like old English verse. Matt Hales, the dignified Brit that he is, happened to have a book of William Blake poetry, which we used as inspiration for "Cold".

About her artistic family

In most families, you are the old-ball-child if you decide to leave college and pursue your dream of being a musician. In my family, you'd be the odd-ball-child if you decided to become a lawyer or a doctor. You'd be encouraged and loved no matter what, but you'd definitely be the strange one of the bunch. I've grown up in a family of musicians, artists and absent-minded dreamers. My grandma and grandpa on my dad's side were both visual artists, my grandma on my mom's side is a poet, my aunt and uncle are glass blowers and designers, my other uncle is a pianist and composer for Broadway theater, my brother and cousins have both taken to the world of film, my mom is an art teacher and writer and my Dad is a music composer for film & TV. The need to create is evidently in the blood.

About ambition

I have all these crazy dreams and schemes and big things that I want to do. There is always the latest 'Schwartz Scheme'…I'll tell my friends that my newest scheme is to write a song for the next Twilight Soundtrack, or get Sonya Tayeh from So You Think You Can Dance to choreograph a dance for a music video, or to make an underwater video & learn how to use scuba gear & then connect the video to a water charity…and then I just go after those dreams! Sometimes it doesn't work out, and sometimes it takes longer than expected, but there's a very good percentage of schemes that become realities. And I hope, that in some way, my dreams will inspire others to follow their heart's passion in a BIG way!..
