LUIS CARLOS BARBIERI
L.C.Barbieri became a noted interpreter playing in the Duo B/S. The Duo played for 14 years in the main theaters of Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Italy, Austria, Switzerland and Portugal. While playing in the Duo he recorded 3 CDs at the Santuário Ecológico do Caraça/MG (Caraça Environmental Sanctuary, Minas Gerais State). The CDs were issued by Bob Digital. The Duo Barbieri/Schneiter career was interrupted by the sudden death of FS in 2001.
Since 2004 L.C. Barbieri has been the coordinator of Mostra e Concurso Nacional de Violão Fred Schneiter (FS Guitar Exhibit and Contest). The event is considered the most important Guitar Contest in Brazil. He was Director of AV-Rio (Associação de Violão do Rio) (Guitar Association of RJ) from 2001 to 2007. In 2007 he also was President of this Association.
LC Barbieri produced and presented the progams “Violões em Foco” (Guitar in Focus) at Rádio MEC FM and “Violão & Cia” (Guitar & Company) at Opus 90. His piece “Prelúdio e Dança nº 1” was published in Europe by Edizioni Carrara (Italy).
As international career highlights he played in Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, France, Uruguay, Paraguay and Perú.
FRED SCHNEITER
In spite of his premature death he left a precious legacy: an important oeuvre for guitar solo and duo, plus compositions for guitar quartet and trio, wind and strings quartets, choir and several arrangements and transcriptions for two guitars.
F. Schneiter started studying guitar in RJ with Luiz Antônio Perez. He graduated as Bachelor in Guitar, UNIRIO (Universidade do Rio de J.) in 1987 and in this same year started his work with LCB in the B&S Duo. His “Suíte Nº 1” for two guitars was edited by Columbia Music Company (USA).
He was awarded the first place at the Concurso de Composição do I Ciclo de Violão (Composition Contest of the I Cycle of Guitar), SP, 1991, with the work “Fantasia 521” for two guitars.
He was born in S. /Ba – Brazil, 10/03/1959 and died in RJ, 05/05/2001.
“BARBIERI & SCHNEITER – SOLO”
In 1999 Fred and I started the elaboration of a project to record a CD with our works for guitar solo. We had a considerable repertoire for guitar solo, in spite of working full time with compositions, arrangements, transcriptions for the Duo. We decided that I would study some pieces and we would record little by little. Fred was the recording music producer so we would have another Duo work. The time frame was not in consideration. When F. died, 2001, some pieces had already been recorded. At that time I decided that this project, which was parallel to the Duo career, was going to be my main own project.
I abandoned all the previous recordings and started to study the entire selected repertoire. I also began searching for my sound as a soloist. For 14 years we had worked on sounding as one guitar. My sound was programmed to function in the Duo context. Now I would have to adequate to a new reality and then resume recording.
The repertoire is quite eclectic, in spite of being formed with our own pieces. There are several styles and musical influences, all with the strong presence of Brazilian music.
It is worth remembering that Garotice, by F., was not in the original project, but since it was the last piece written by F. I decided to include it in the repertoire. After some time I understood that the CD “B & S - solo” could not be a tribute to F., since it really is another work by our Duo.
