“My cup’s overflowing with life/And I fall somewhere in between it all.” -“In Between”
You may know Lukas Haas as an award-winning actor who has starred in television, on Broadway and in feature films for such directors as Steven Spielberg (Amazing Stories), Peter Weir (Witness), Mike Nichols (Waiting for Godot), Tim Burton (Mars Attacks!), Woody Allen (Everyone Says I Love You), Gus Van Zant (Last Days) and Rian Johnson (Brick).
And while Haas has been acting since he was four, he has been listening to and playing music practically as long, since his father, who played violin (his mother sang opera), turned him on to the Beatles as a youngster. That love and passion for pop and rock comes through loudly on his debut for Pulse Recordings.
“One doesn’t exclude the other,” he says about his balancing act between music and acting. “Movies take a chunk of your time, but when you’re done filming, you have time to do what you want. Each gives you breathing room for the other. I love acting, but sometimes it can be a little restrictive. You have to work within the constraints of a script, the character you're playing. Music gives me the freedom to write and play and create on my own. I can write a song in my head anytime I want, wherever I am.... ”
Working with co-producer Tim Anderson of Ima Robot, Lukas has fashioned an album of real-life narratives and mini-movies, complete with lush melodies, often accompanied by a chamber orchestra of horns, flutes and clarinet that recall his own influences. Among his collaborators on the album are Ben Harper, Jet drummer Chris Cester and Rilo Kiley’s Blake Sennett.
“Lindsay” is a romantic love song to his girlfriend spotlighting an impressive falsetto (“When I saw you the first time/You were dancing the robot/My eyes were stuck on you”), while “Kemp” tells the story of a girl he met one night who painted her nails with Sharpies like his guitar and literally fell into his lap. “Shooting Star,” which delves into his childhood, is about “getting older, looking back and forward… a hopeful song that encompasses my past.” The strummed acoustic guitar in “I See in You” is an ode to an ex-girlfriend (“So don’t ever worry/Because you are always part of me”). In the introspective “In Between,” featuring Ben Harper on slide guitar, Lukas describes how he can understand both sides in an argument, a quality he says he has utilized as an actor, where he must jump into a role and look at things from the point of view of the character he’s playing.
“Playing music is when I’m most being myself,” he says. “I'm not acting..... I'm talking about my loves, my losses, experiences that have affected me, and the things that are most important to me."
Haas got his first drum set at 10 years old, his first keyboard at 11, then started writing on guitar at 18. “That’s when I first put words and music together and built them into a complete song,” he says. After moving with his family from West Hollywood to Austin, he played in several different bands – eventually settling in Los Angeles where he formed the band Bunny with director/musician Vincent Gallo.
Whenever possible, Haas has tried to work his musical talents into the films he’s been cast in, as well as lending his songs to other films. He's performed his own songs in movies like Breakfast of Champions, Alan Rudolph’s film adaptation of the Kurt Vonnegut novel featuring Bruce Willis and Nick Nolte, in Gus Van Sant's Last Days and in the film In Quiet Night. Haas played a version of "Kemp," from the new album in David Arquette and Courtney Cox's horror satire The Tripper, in which he also starred. An instrumental version of the song also plays over the end credits of Leonardo DiCaprio's environmental documentary, The Eleventh Hour, and he has recently been recruited by director Nick Cassavetes to write a song for his upcoming film My Sister's Keeper.
Over the years, Haas has collaborated with a number of different musicians. He has opened for Macy Gray and played piano on her albums. After befriending OutKast’s Andre Benjamin, Lukas appeared in the rap duo’s video for “Roses,” going on to perform with the group on Late Night with David Letterman and MTV’s Total Request Live.
With the release of his debut album, Lukas Haas is now a dual threat as an actor and a musician.
“I think I can do justice to both,” he says. “I love combining the two. I don’t see any limits. There are no boxes. Music is something I’ll always do, whether people ever hear it or not. I'll never stop. It’s just part of me.”
The turkey shot out of the oven and rocketed into the air, it knocked every plate off the table and partly demolished a chair.
It ricocheted into a corner and burst with a deafening boom, then splattered all over the kitchen, completely obscuring the room.
It stuck to the walls and the windows, it totally coated the floor, there was turkey attached to the ceiling, where there'd never been turkey before.
It blanketed every appliance, it smeared every saucer and bowl, there wasn't a way I could stop it, that turkey was out of control.
I scraped and I scrubbed with displeasure, and thought with chagrin as I mopped, that I'd never again stuff a turkey with popcorn that hadn't been popped.
Ok, so I just finished watching "Imagine: John Lennon" on VH1....and yep, I'm now positive that you remind me of him...in fact I'm wearing my John Lennon blue shades man......like right now man...and I hate to be the one to tell you ...but, Dude, you're a hippie...LOL call it organic or whatever you like..all I'm saying is you'd have fit right in at Woodstock.....I would have been 4....but my mom said it was a blast!! Being a Hippie is a state of mind....not so much when you were born...
Now, for any of you who sit and say....what can I do, how can I affect change in the world, and the people who are destroying it with greed, hate and war......it's quite simple....continue with nbc.com and musical guest on SNL...but here's another way to help spread the message and honestly, great vibes, of "We're all the same",... by calling, texting, e-mailing your local radio stations....request this song...if they don't have it...ask "WHY NOT"....the more people who hear it....the better off this world will be. And for any, who think I'm just kissing some celb's ass......I've worked with them before...and they're all still just, people...famous or not. And honestly, if you're questioning my motives for wanting to spread the message of this song...then maybe you're part of the problem. To those who pick up the new PEACE SONG CRUSADE (had to name my movement something....LOL) We can all be blessed.... with PEACE,LOVE&LIGHT!!!

Great to see you again! Well I know that maybe you're not going to remember me but I've met you at Montreal on the set of the movie Lathe from heaven few years ago.
Found the film Lady in White (1988) on a Halloween scary movie list. I recall watching it when I was young and being freaked out! Didn't realize you were in it. Talented actor as a youth. Kudos to all your hard work.
Friends answer your needs before their own. You come to them with your hunger, And they satisfy you with peace. That's how friends are. Friends let you speak your mind, Without worrying what their thoughts will be. Friends know when you are silent, They need to listen your heart. Friends share the joy and the pain. They know about desire and rejection. Friends allow you to be who you are, Without expectations of who you should be. Friends don't come with a purpose, They don't come with a plan. They come to enlighten your spirit, They come to brighten your heart. They come to give you a hand when needed And expect nothing in return. It is the little things that friends do. Like fill your heart with pleasure, hope and joy. AAHH... The Sweetness Of Friendsip There can be no price placed on Friendship It has once been told. For Friendships are worth far more than gold.
Have a great day....and nah....I wouldn't really trip you...lol I'd light a fire under your butt to make you run faster!! BTW....still working on the SNL thing... And it's been bugging me since I first heard We're all the same...you reminded me of someone, I just couldn't put my finger on it till this morning.....the 'live' studio sounds and the cresendo towards the end...it reminds my of another very talented and world concious artist....John Lennon.and yeah, I know it sounds like I'm kissing ass, and it sounds oh so 'cheesy', but you yourself said........it isn't cheesy if it's true! I close my eyes when listening and I get the same J.L. 'feeling' of hope and giddiness.....just thought you might like to know.
but....for those of us with 'alternative' beliefs, (I'm Wiccan) it's a blessed and sacred, day/night.......this video is intended to help enlighten, and give a little insight into my Holyday....the language you will hear is Gaelic (gallic), the native tongue of ancient Scotland and Ireland...I hope you watch and enjoy it...and please, come away with the understanding....we Witches are not evil...just the opposite...with Peace,Love&Light...I present..... a look at....
