Lukas Simonis; guitarist, composer, lives in Rotterdam (Netherlands). I co-founded and work for WORM (a centre for experimental arts). For most of my musical career, I played in bands and projects that seldom managed to play 'straight' music, despite moving within the field of 'rock' (e.g. Dull Schicksal, Trespassers W, Morzelpronk, Liana Flu Winks, AA Kismet, Vril and Coolhaven).
MY interests also lie in the direction of more abstract 'sound'; using electronics, improvisation, voice, field recordings and objects. I played gigs/improvised with people like Eugene Chadbourne, Eddie Prevost, Richard Barret, Goh Lee Kwang, Anne Wellmer, Dave Brown, Greg Malcolm, Anne la Berge, The Bohman Brothers (Apricot My Lady) and Henk Bakker (Static Tics).
CURRENT PROJECTS;
SOLO ; lots of effects, a guitar, a chair; the CD 'Stots' points the direction
COOLHAVEN ; a group with Peter Fengler, Hajo Doorn and LS. Three CD's; Blue Moustache, Suppe fur die Nacht (by Felix Kubin and Coolhaven) and Strømblocque Phantasieën.
DUO WITH JIM WHELTON (NO, Dave Marsh) called PERFECT VACUUM ; our first CD. (released in march 2009) is called 'A guide to the music of the twenty first century'. On Acid Soxx.
VRIL ; Recorded a new album which is 'now' (summer 2009) released, title; The Fatal Duckpond (on ReR Megacorp). Members include Bob Drake, Pierre Omer and Chris Cutler. One other album 'Effigies in Cork' on Rec Megacorp. Twangy guitar music played by (civilized) aliens.
APRICOT MY LADY ; consists of The Bohman Brothers, Ann laBerge and LS. Conceptual Improv and other weird stuff. CD on Esc Rec; Newly refurbished and Tussock Moth.
KAWABATA & LS; I made some songs with the lyrics of the Japanese Poet Takayuki Kawabata. An ensemble consisting of Nina Hitz, Kumi Kondo, LS and Miki Segiura recorded it. The CD came out in november 2007.
PETER STAMPFEL ; Together with Nina Hitz and Alan Purves i am the third persons that tries to fuck Peter's songs up when he attempts to play them. We recorded an album in may 2009. Which will be released as soon as i find an interested label.
STATIC TICS. With Henk Bakker and sometimes Steve Beresford. Improv with electronics.
RADIOPLAYS. For WORM RADIO and the VPRO I curate a series of Radiofonic Radioplays that will be broadcasted on several occasions -Radio 6 Cafe Sonore, Radio Resonance, radio Rijmond & the works. More info; http://wormstudio.blogspot.com
FACES. A project about electronic sounds, live cinema, improvisation and deranged composition.
With Joost van Veen as visual wizard and Huib Emmer, Kaoru Iwamura, Nina Hitz and me as musicians. One DVD released in 2009; 'Tijdlus'.
Vrijdag 20 november speelt Firetime weer, in De Unie te Rotterdam, maarrrrr, veel nieuwe nummers. Ze zijn weer een nieuw pad ingeslagen, kom om te zien en horen waar dat pad toe leidt....
