Luke Dabbs started playing the guitar when he was about 12 years old. At first it was just something fun that he could do in his spare time. He would often browse tablature websites trying to learn how to play songs from his favorite artists like dc Talk, Lifehouse, Chris Rice, Steven Curtis Chapman, and others like them. He had always admired the talent of these artists, but never dreamed he'd be performing as a musician himself. With his humble nature, Luke never thought he was very good. He would often sit in his room by himself, strumming away at his guitar and singing the songs of his favorite artists. He hardly ever let anyone else hear him sing, not even his father Sam Dabbs, who had taught him how to play the guitar in the first place. Then everything changed in March of 2007.

One Sunday morning, Luke was sitting in Sunday School when he suddenly had a strong feeling like God wanted him to sing a song in front of the church. He had been practicing and had nearly mastered a song from Chris Rice called "Clumsy", but the idea of jumping up in front of 100 people and singing a song was absolutely terrifying. Wanting to trust in the Lord completely, Luke prayed, "Lord, if you want me to sing a song in front of all those people, then please give me a sign." God gave Him a sign, alright. When he came in the sanctuary for church, he began looking at the bulletin before the service started. On the front of the bulletin there was a Bible verse from Psalm 150 which said, "Praise Him...with the sound of the trumpet...with stringed instruments..." Luke thought to himself, "Now that's a sign!" Luke was so moved by this sign he was almost ready to get up and sing the song right then. It was kind of short-notice for the church, so his dad set it up for the following Sunday.
The next week, Luke got behind the microphone with his knees nearly knocking together. He had prayed that the Lord would give him the strength to jump up there and sing with confidence. The Lord answered that prayer. When Luke finished singing his rendition of Chris Rice's "Clumsy", the whole congregation jumped up and gave him a standing ovation! It was at that point that he realized that he loved singing and performing for the Lord. He truly realized that when you yield to what God wants you to do, the results can be amazing and wonderful. Luke still didn't know if he was meant to sing for a living, but he knew he loved it, and apparently he was pretty good at it!
It wasn't until November that he started writing original music. His first song was written after being deeply touched by Philippians 4:7 which says, "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus". This song he called "Peace". Aside from one other song called "For You", which Luke wrote the music and lyrics for, he and his father Sam write all of their music together. They make a great team, since Sam usually has trouble composing music and Luke has the same difficulty with lyrics. All of their material comes to them in ways that constantly remind them that the Lord gives them every song they have.
Luke and Sam realize that the talents they have been blessed with can only come from God, so it is their mission as musicians to use those gifts for His glory. Since Luke stepped forward to answer God’s clear call, he has been singing at various churches around North Carolina, a preachers conference, a ministers meeting, some private events and led music at Church camp for a week. He has been very well received and has stayed busy fulfilling his commitment to God’s call.
:)Luke is ready and willing to go anywhere, anytime to sing and spread the gospel in the way God has prepared him. His schedule is flexible. He is still in school, but he’s home schooled and can do his work anywhere. He has the full support of his parents. His Dad is his promoter, his driver, his roadie, his lead guitarist, and also co-writes with him. He is flexible and ready to go wherever God leads. With all that, what does Luke need? Opportunities! yea i'm super excited 4 christmas 2! it's ganna be so much fun. we're going caroling with our youth on christmas. n exchanging presents n baking cookies ahh! n yea it's soo much better now, the weather is so nice. ohh n i still gatta put up the christmas tree! lol
