   About lukejazz

A little bit about Luke Brouillette:

Born in Natchitoches, LA (pronounced "NAK-uh-tush") in 1957, I've always been interested in music.

I graduated from the Berklee College of Music in 1980 and hung around Boston to get involved with the original music scene there.

I returned to Natchitoches in '93 and am currently the guitar instructor at Northwestern State University as well as working for CP-TEL, a local communications company.

As for what I'm up to at this moment, my current musical focus is on straight ahead american style jazz guitar and for the past year I've been doing a lot of playing at The Ducournau in downtown Natchitoches with area jazz musicians.

The Lukejazz Trio is an exciting jazz group with a repertoire that consist of jazz standards and originals in the swing, latin and bebop styles and moods that range from exhilarating to romantic. Each member of the group is a strong soloist in their own right, and each delivers "the goods" whether the tune is a ballad, bossa nova, or hard swingin' bop.

The trio is led by Luke Brouillette, a guitarist with a diverse background, having played in symphony orchestras, rock bands, variety groups, big bands and seemingly everything in between. Brouillette has kept his focus on jazz for the past 15 years and has a broad repertoire of jazz standards at his command, including a list of original compositions. Luke is a native of Natchitoches, has studied at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, and is the guitar instructor at Northwestern State University.

The drummer in the trio is Sammy Nix, well known veteran of the music industry in Louisiana and beyond.
Nix is a powerful musical force, having worked professionally as a drummer for more than 45 years and is "first call"

It was a great pleasure to play with you again Friday night at Mamas. It's always a joy to work with someone who knows their craft and has great touch and groove. We will DEFINITELY need to do that again.
