Luminate is delighted to announce the return to New Zealand of the internationally renowned
Adham Shaikh
who rocked the main floor at Uprising New Years '07 with his outstandingly funky blend of world grooves. With two more years of collaboration and production since then, are very excited about what Adham has in store for us at Luminate'09.....
Bluetech's
love of the melodic and exquisite sense of sound design makes him one of the most ingenious producers today.
Bluetech's sound covers a wide spectrum of styles - deep ambient, dub, techno, atmospheric, tech house, minimal, dubtech, spacious and exotic.
Evan describes his music as “incubated in dreams, flows of energy from ancestral sources, the shape of the wind… a primordial electro-dub alchemy.”
Bluetech created the labels Native State Records and Somnia Sounds to release his own music and music from other artists who cross boundaries between ambient/chill and more idm/experimental sounds. Bluetech has also released two albums on Aleph Zero Records and is currently working on a third for release in 2009. Recent collaborations include an album with legendary Steve Hillage and a tour and forthcoming album with Pitch Black.
performs acoustic soulful-roots and funky world-r’n’b with a rare performance style. She creates her own band sound - live in front of the audience. Using a loop pedal she layers her vocals into intricate harmonies with beat boxing and vocal bass lines, along with acoustic guitar and tribal rhythms, to accompany her R’n’b infused vocals.
Paying homage to her Maori roots, her music is a passionate internal journey: from danceable rhythms to lyrics evoking quiet reverie. The insight into Mihirangi’s emotions, personal triumphs, fears and political convictions offer a refreshing perspective on contemporary culture. Her performance is renowned as a celebrated spiritual event that is sincere and inspiring, crafting an original rootsy dynamic sound that is deservedly attracting a wide and enthusiastic audience.
Paddy Free
will perform his unique fusion of Taonga Puoro (Maori instruments) with contemporary electronic soundscapes and dancefloor beats
Mamaku Project
merge a range of musical influences into an uplifting danceable high energy show, with gypsy, folk, jazz, soul, dub and tribal influences. They were a certain highlight of the Nelson Arts festival, and will be unmissable at Luminate '09.
Karen Hunter's
music can be described as contemporary folk/rock with sassy jazz infused acoustic grooves. With guitar, voice, loops and percussion Karen is a renowned, dynamic and engaging live act in a class of her own.
Pacific Curls
are a trio of women who fuse Maori, Polynesian and Celtic influences with an array of instruments and vocals.
Loopus in Fabula
is an experienced producer and DJ who's funky jazzy dancefloor beats will get you smiling and grooving.
Yeshe is an incredible Mbira player with years of training in Africa. He has had to cancel his NZ tour due to family reasons. He will reschedule his tour for 2010 and will perform then at Luminate
