Luminous are the Sweet Adelines International 15th Place Quartet
Luminous have just returned from the Sweet Adelines International Convention in Hawaii, where they were over the moon to place 15th!! This exciting placement in the top 15 qualifies them for entry into the 2009 Quartet Contest in Nashville TN.
You'll have gathered that Luminous span 2 continents. Ellie, a native of the UK, joined Lauren and Emma in the St. Louis Harmony Chorus in September 2006 when she arrived in St. Louis to pursue a year long post-graduate internship. Despite Emma leaving the chorus due to college commitments the three girls continued their hunt for a baritone to complete the quartet. Casey was performing in the Old St. Charles Christmas parade when she met Ellie in December 2006. It turned out that Casey knew Emma and Lauren through college music and mutual friends. She jumped at the chance to sing in a quartet with them so they got together and Luminous was formed.
Emma and Casey registered with Sweet Adelines as Chapter-at-Large so that the quartet could register and enter the regional contest. On March 30th, 2007 they placed 9th at the region 5 contest after only 7 weeks of rehearsing. That same weekend Lauren and Ellie were pleased to win title of Region 5 Chorus Champions with the St. Louis Harmony Chorus.
On Friday 13th July, Luminous won the 2007, Rising Star Contest at the Sweet Adelines International Education Symposium in San Antonio, TX.
As a result of this win, Luminous were thrilled to open the Quartet Finals at the Sweet Adelines International Convention in Calgary and to be representing YWIH from across the world.
In February Luminous performed in Nottingham, England on the show of Ellie's home chorus - The Lace City Singers. At the end of March, Luminous placed 2nd in the Region 5 quartet contest earning them wildcard placement in the 2008 International Quartet Contest.
A Trans-Atlantic quartet I hear you say??!! Well....It’s been done before!!!
No way, you guys competed in Hawaii and placed 15th?!?!? WAT! That's so amazing! Wow, I'm so happy for you, and I wish I could be there doing the same thing. Dang, I feel so anxious sometimes...wanting to be somewhere, get into a great quartet and sing for gold...not just to sound nice. I hope I can get there soon.
Thanks for coming to the River Blenders' rehearsal on Monday & singing for us. You sound great! It was good for us to sing in front of an audience, too. I can't wait to see you in Hawaii! Break 4 lips!
