Luna Angel, her birth name, was born into a longtime musical family and raised in Northern California by her Jamaican mother and a French-Jewish father, Luna was mentored by her famous uncle, Junior Marvin the lead guitarist for the legendary Bob Marley's Wailers band. She broke into the music scene at age 18 with her first group, the I-Rise Band and then turned her attention to fine tuning her craft through studying at the Jazz School in Berkeley. Since then, backed by her own six-piece band, Luna has been opening for major artists including The Wailers and has shared the stage with many heavyweights including Third World, Buju Banton and Michael Franti. Recently sharing the stage with India Arie, Erykah Badu, Floetry,Toots and the Maytals, Alpha Blondy and other luminaries of the R&B, soul, neo soul, and hip hop music scene, Luna has also been invited repeatedly to play at California's largest world music, reggae and jam band festivals.
Luna expanded beyond her California roots recently to tour Europe on a U.S. Military base tour, and to represent America at the International Trade Fair in Tripoli, Libya in 2006 at which she played to a massive enthusiastic audience of ten thousand people. Luna was the first American artist to perform in Libya in thirty years.
Move with Me ,her debut album that she wrote, produced, arranged and released in 2005. An album of personal, spiritual and political songs, reflects the talent and insight of an old soul on young shoulders. Her irresistible pop melodies and soulful rhythms, and her cool enchanting vocals summon up other modern pop chanteuses including Sade, Erykah and Alicia. The album also includes elements of R&B, jazz and a spice of dancehall. Producers that assisted in this endeavor along the way included childhood friend Luke Andrews (The Marleys) as well as Parisian jazz musicians Patrick Deitch and Paul John Borowsky.
Roger Steffens, Founding Editor of The Beat, says about Luna, "Luna Angel is filled with warmth, feeling and taste. Her impressive lineage and musical grounding is deeply evident in the range of material and the mature confidence of her approach to it. She seems to have unlimited potential to make her mark on 21 century music."
Song by song, album by album, and incredible live performance by incredible live performance -- making her mark she is.
