Victoria was born in France. Her father was a famous singer in the 60s in France. He then became a music producer, and Victoria grew up going to studios with him. At eleven, she recorded her first song with her sister and friends. It was never released, but she has fond memories of that experience. It wasn't until 6 years ago that Victoria realized that she could sing. She was listening to the radio one day, and thought "if these people can write songs, so can I!" She turned the radio off, and all of the sudden, a song came pouring in. She found a spot to drive to and hike up the side of a mountain in Utah. She had a pen and paper and had the feeling of going through the experience of the song as she was writing it. It was her first such connection with the spiritual realm. Since then she has written more songs, including one channeled in spanish, even though she doesn't speak spanish.
Earl Shimabukuro, a native Californian, has always had an early affinity towards music, beginning with the
trumpet in middle school. In college, he eventually picked up the guitar, his main instrument of choice.
“I’ve always held a fascination for it,” says Earl. “It was more than a fascination, though, and I knew right away that it
was to become my main way towards a deeper, existential level of self-_expression and Truth.” Earl plays mostly his
acoustic guitar, “Abra,” as well as electric guitar, bass, keyboards. He’s currently working on his upcoming debut album,
due out in July 2007. For his own songwriting and evolving musicality, he credits many artists, most notably: Cory Sipper,
Nanci Griffith, Abra Moore, Joni Mitchell, Michael Landau, Miles Davis, Sky Cries Mary, Pink Floyd, Alex DeGrassi,
Julianna Hatfield, Nels Cline, Jane Siberry, James Taylor, Patty Griffin, Patty Larkin, Jill Phillips, Jill Paquette, Soundgarden,
Willy Porter, Herbie Hancock & Chick Corea, Crass, The Sundays, Cocteau Twins, Ravi Shankar, Suddenly, Tammy! and
(“ehem”) Stravinsky, to name just a few!
Victoria and Earl met in their spiritual psychology class. They are both attending the University of Santa Monica. Victoria posted one of her songs one day on their yahoo group and Earl completely resonated with it. They started practicing together soon after.
