Sounds Like
Baritone vocals like David Sylvian, Peter Murphy, Brendan Perry, and Stephen Kilby - but also influenced by David Bowie, Beck, Trent Reznor, and many others.
Aspirations towards clever guitarists such as Robert Fripp, Michael Brooke, Michael Hedges, Robert Smith, Adrian Belew, Reeves Gabrels, Vinnie Riley, as well as great classicists like Segovia, Julian Bream, and the Ramirez Brothers.
Dreams to emulate great Cellists like Lynn Harrell, Ofra Harnoy, Jacqueline Du Pre, Rostropovich, and Yo Yo Ma - but probably more in line with Rasputina, David Darling, and the like.
Luna Trick is the creative brainchild of English multi-Instrumentalist, Daniel Staniforth. Classically trained as a Cellist, Staniforth crafts an array of songs styles - ranging from Indie Rock, Shoegaze, darkwave, electronica, space-funk, ethereal, Alt-pop - to more widely experimental. This sophisticated one-man band act follows in the great tradition of Nine Inch Nails, Beck, and early Cure albums. His hybridized guitar style renders many different sonic colours, which are further enhanced by his willingness to explore various instrumentations, both traditional and innovative.
FLOWFORTH PRODUCTIONS has recently two full length CDs from Luna Trick - Total Submersion and Hoar Frost Sheen. The CDs are available at CDBaby, Amazon, iTunes, or as a direct MP3 download from this MySpace page. Both CDs are full of alternative flavourings and influences from the more creative phases of the last couple of decades. Some comparisons given are the Cure, Bowie, NIN, Radiohead, Beck, etc. - but the songs also contain Staniforth’s unique musical signature. A few songs from Total Submersion have received some Indie radio play, including the historical narrative, "Jacobite" - the tragic story, "Tale of Three Ribbons," - and the dreamscape, "Swimmer & the Siren." Similar stand outs from Hoar Frost Sheen are the critique on religious cruelty, "Orthodox Killers" – the confessional, "Tears in Vino" - and the overtly political "Suffer the Fool". An extra bonus is son, Sylvan, who’s delightful singing can be heard on the poem, "Babbla."
Staniforth also composes ambient, neo-classical, and “poet-scapes” under his own name, including the recently released – Father to Father - which is a serious of impressionistic orchestral pieces written in honour of his father. The CD, also available at CDBaby, explores the English landscape of his youth and experiences as a young immigrant.
Staniforth is currently working on a project with the brilliant British psyche-folk singer, Rebsie Fairholm (http://www.rebsiefairholm.co.uk/), as well as contributing work to her upcoming solo album, Seven Star Green, from Sonic Spongecake Records.
