Bio
This release is to announce the re-formation of the original line-up of sub-legendary Hollywood punk-metal band Lunatics On Parole, playing one last show under that moniker, on Wed. May 11, 2011, 10:00pm, at the world famous Viper Room. Kenny the Gardener originally conceived the conceptual, politicized, humorous, 420-based, punk/metal hybrid with Shannon Larkin, (Wrathchild, Godsmack), back in hills of Virginia in the late 1980's. Officially beginning in 1997, in Hollywood, with the Gardener, and the original members of LOP, including Greg Biribauer, (NIN, Julian Lennon), Yowzah, (Methadone Cocktail, Club Dump), and Neil "Nasty" Taylor, (Tapeworm, LAMF), released full-length concept records with the help of Mathias Schneeburger, (earthlings?, Masters Of Reality), creating musically diverse, complex. heavy, noisy, fast & slow, long & short songs that were made on pot, about pot, for potheads. Lunatics On Parole scored major college radio play with "Marijuana" and "Can't We All Just Get A Bong?", got the front cover of Rock City News, performed at metal festivals throughout the USA, and appeared at every major club in Los Angeles, including the Roxy, the Whisky, the Troubadour and many others. By 2002, they became a mainstay at the legendary but now defunct Coconut Teaszer in Hollywood. Heavy rock luminaries such as Pete Stahl, (Goatsnake, Scream, earthlings?), Greg Anderson (Goatsnake, Sunno)))), Dez (Coal Chamber, Devil Driver), appeared on their albums. One of the last photos ever taken of Dee Dee Ramone, was of him wearing an official Lunatics On Parole t-shirt. He was a big fan. So was Dave Grohl, Josh Homme & Nick Oliveri, (Queens of the Stone Age, Mondo Generator). Yet, partly due to the brutal integrity of their music, and the uncompromising tones of Kenny the Gardener's blissed-out visions of unjust politics and weed-infested Utopian peace rants, and kind of like the Ramones before them, Lunatics On Parole never saw the success they deserved, remaining mired in the underground, playing to a loyal hardcore following, but little more. Eventually, Taylor left to go on tour with Snake River Conspiracy and Devo. Biribauer left to go on tour with Armored Saint, The Vines and Queens Of the Stone Age, eventually forming electro-art-rock outfit The Spores with Molly McGuire (earthlings?, Mondo Generator). Finally Yowzah spent his time working on Hot Rods and Muscle Cars and while performing with the likes of Deadly Motor Vehicles and Switchblade Kitty. He is is back in the game now after recuperating from a motorcycle accident last year. Kenny the Gardener continued LOP with other members, including Terry Carter (Wrathchild, Souls At Zero) & Kenny Pierce (Soul, The Spores), until he put the act on permanent hiatus in 2009 to become a history professor. Due to the friendship of the 4 original members, they have decided to work together again as a more "serious" electronic-rock act called "Skarrs" and are working on their debut album for 2012 worldwide release. Playing this one last show as Lunatics On Parole for their loyal followers through the years, the band will officially be ending a chapter in Los Angeles musical history on May 11 at the Viper Room. _______________________________ Lunatics On Parole was formed in 1997 by Kenny the Gardener as a voice that railed against the political and corporate conglomerate running America and the world. The band performed many live shows and released three critically acclaimed CDs, with each of the CDs having a story interwoven within the song lyrics. The first release, Welcome to the U.S.S.A., was a free form punk/metal style of music like nobody else. It still is. The strong political lyrics still apply today. The second CD, Life Sucks and I Love It! was recorded as the band was going through several transitions resulting in a cd with a wide variety of metal styles. The lyrics were of a more personal level ranging from Welcome to My World to I Feel Hate as it told a tale of death, drugs and loneliness. Lineup changes continued as the band toured the U.S. in support of the CDs. In 2005 RISE was released, another CD with different lineups, as the band returned to it's political voice. It met with instant critical praise and several songs have been on compilations resulting in radio and internet airplay. However by the end of the year the band the band had played it's last show. Or so it seemed. Continuing airplay and an independent movie soundtrack kept L.O.P.'s music going. In 2007 a meeting with Slaves to Insanity resulted in the rebirth of Lunatics On Parole. The band played Los Angeles and toured the country through the summer of 2009. .. _______________ .. "Seek truth and ye shall find, LUNATICS ON PAROLE's, "RISE" to give hope back to humanity. For a long time metal has seemed to be empty, shallow, and the "cool in" thing to gain your rise to riches. It has had No meaningful lyrical content, just violent, hateful, and horrible soulless dribble. I am proud to announce that "RISE" has personally been declared the best album of the year thus far. "RISE", contains heavy catchy riffs that raise anticipation and anger alongside a hammering of boot stomping drums. The music is a casing for the anti-corporation and anti-BUSHit bomb known as the vocal inspiration's of Kenny "the gardener." What did I get out of LUNATICS ON PAROLE's new album "RISE"? I gained not only an excellent metal album, which in no way am I trying to down play in all it's brutality!! I gained a sense of personal empowerment that not many band albums have. You can spend a few bucks on this album, but the pay back is far greater. The song "Spirit of Truth," tells that you do not have to be beaten down and be forced to believe all the lies of those in power. "OPEN YOU EYES" in all its punchy music sense, continues the message of not believing all you see in front of you. The media blitz is just the smokescreen for many hidden agendas. "Corporate Goosestep," is self explanatory. You got your Wal-Mart's and other stores that are RAPING our country of its resources, denying our peoples rights, out sourcing jobs, and just out right exploiting the working class that it masquerades as benefiting. Every song is packed with catchy vocals that you'll find your self singing in enjoyment and maybe as a catalyst for other thoughts of self empowerment. Buy this album, play it for your friends, have them play it for their friends and so on. Music is to be shared and was once meant to convey messages to the people, with LUNATICS ON PAROLE's, album "RISE" we find ourselves once again hearing the war cry that those who were in this country first played. Don't be another sheep. Stand up for your self and your rights. "RISE"!!!! Just as a personal add on to this review: Turn off your t.v's and get off the couch!!!!. The war isn't only overseas. Its here, now, even in your own house's. YOU are allowing people to run and control your lives as you sit back and medicate yourselves into stupidity. You can always cure a cold, or sore back, but there is NO CURE FOR STUPID!!!! The more you sit, the less human you become. Shall I sit the lube next to your couch? Ever seen the movie the Warriors? Can YOU count suckers? There are millions of people out there and only a few in power. Make a difference, vote, THINK, don't support continuing corporate take over. There are alternatives to Fal-mart. They are taking out our country at a rapid rate, destroying small communities and families. RISE!!!!! NO -w!!!!!!" ............: Maggot of www.midwestmetal.info .. "Their name is Lunatics On Parole and their lead singer is a towering madman! They might be lunatics (and may even be on parole), but one things for sure: These guys have an in-your-face, like-it-or-fuck-off approach to their music-its loud and it rocks!" .......Dylan Filkow @ Album Network Magazine.... "The next evolution of metal!" .....Morbid Mark @ Fey Victus Magazine.... "THIS is political music. There are a bunch of phrases basically calling out the government, and also calling out the rest of us to rise up and fight for what we believe in and not get dragged down by the state of the system. I recommend this to anybody who hates the state of our government, likes metal, and doesnt want to have to listen to reggae to get that anti authority feel. Good stuff, man!" .....Linda Ode---Rock My Monkey.... "For hardcore fans, though, this is the best of both worlds-ominous sounding music and vocals with a lighter sense of humor thrown in" .....RAE @ Skratch Magazine .... "Catchy riffs, nice tunes and musical themes, along with great arrangements and to wrap it all up, compositions with a unique and personal character that make them distinguish and stand out from every other band! Needless to say anything about the craftmanship and the skills of the musicians that comprise this superb musical proposal!! Musically now they are hard to label since they incorporate in their sound elements from almost all the genres of the metal music along with some intense punk rock tinges. However, the most significant and characteristic part of their music is definitely the vocals. I've never listened to such original, great, strange and yet passionate vocals that simply offer amazing interpretations suitable for the meanings that Lunatics want to share with the listeners." .....Christine Parastatidou @ Behind The Veil Ezine .... "If you haven't checked out Lunatics On Parole you have got to indulge. This band is hard to label, but upon first listen, you think of the heavy doom riffs of Black Sabbath, the insane tempo changes like Macabre, with a rough vocal style similar to Chris Barnes of the band Six Feet Under. Trust me, this band is 100% worth checking out!" Sick Thrash Productions .... "Lunatics on Parole are a welcome addition to the metal world with their celebration of the fucked-upness of life, their reveling in silliness...Also, the album title, crazy though it may be, is also veritably brimming over with philosophical considerations. One detects there's a brain behind this metal somewhere, too." .fishcomcollective.net .... " Lunatics On parole had the No. 1 Most Requested number on his Sunday night Into The Pit show, beating out a few names you may have heard of: Danzig, Megadeth and Phoenix hometown heroes Flotsam and Jetsam. Comments Larry, My phones were going crazy for it even before the show started, from just the previous weeks spin alone! There were some phones coming if for it in other dayparts at the station as well. Great name, great song, great fun!" .....Larry Mac @ KUPD in Album Network Magazine .... "The unique vocals and driving sound made us feel this band was worth the shot-and we werent disappointed. The phones rang and the requests came in!" ..Bob Fonda @ KLFX .... __________________ ....This profile was edited with ..Thomas' myspace editor™ V2.5.. -
