    Mac Kelly's Interests
General
MoviesSo many to mention, so here's whatever pops in my head as I type: First off, Fellini changed my life. And that didn't happen until 2003 when I saw my first Fellini movie from start to finish. Up until then I'd only seen parts of 8 1/2 and La Dolce Vita. He opened my mind up to what movies can be. He breaks all the rules and he does it beautifully. His movies are full of life, hilarious, sad, absurd. They're the perfect antidote for the mind rot you get from the shiny, slick turds that Hollywood puts out. Any of his movies will do the trick - Amarcord (so many great scenes-the kid and the big boobed tobacconist, the family at the dinner table, the kids wanking in the car), Roma (the papal fashion show is so wonderfully insane it's beyond words), I Vitelloni, Nights of Cabiria, City of Women, The White Shiek, Variety Lights, And the Ship Sails On, his segment in Spirits of the Dead, Ginger and Fred, Juliet of the Spirits, and of course 8 1/2 and La Dolce Vita. Ok, now for other movies - Bananas, Take the Money and Run, Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex But Were Afraid To Ask, Sleeper, Zelig, Stardust Memories, Annie Hall, Manhattan, The Woman Chaser (low budget film totally off the radar starring Patrick Warburton and directed by Robinson Devor - hilarious black comedy), Brother Orchid (Edward G. Robinson playing a gangster hiding out in a monastery, hysterical with great dialogue), Art School Confidential, Team America, Sideways, About Schmidt, Election, Happiness (Solondz' best), Storytelling, American Beauty, Kung Pow: Enter the Fist, Magnolia, Mondo Topless (a Russ Meyer masterpiece from 1966 featuring the best voice over in the history of cinema), Mudhoney (I thought I'd have a hernia laughing so hard watching the scene with Calif dancing with the blonde deaf mute), Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, Beneath the Valley of the Ultravixens, Shake Hands with Danger (So what if it's an industrial safety film from the late 70's. Fuck it. It's hilarious, it's got tension and it has a great original song, sung by the Dean of the University of Kansas Law School that's reminiscent of Johnny Cash. In fact you can watch it on my page. It's in one of the Flash players on the right. It was also directed by Herk Harvey who directed Carnival of Souls from 1962), Jaws, The Naked Kiss, Johnny Guitar (I cant wait for this to come out on DVD), The Killing (I know Kubrick made some great films, but I love this one), Seconds, Talk to Her, Death Race 2000, A Bucket of Blood (it's worth it to watch just for the poet alone), Shoot the Piano Player, Caddyshack, The Lonely Guy, The Jerk, Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, The Producers (the original), Enter Laughing, Women of the World, Mondo Mod, Detroit Rock City (I saw Kiss in Concert in Detroit in 1976 and I think this movie was made for me), High School High, Mafia (the best vomiting scene I've seen on film), Airplane, Its A Wonderful Life (I don't know why but I can watch it over and over), Grease (one of my favorite films growing up), Sunset Blvd., Up In Smoke, The Warriors, Last Tango in Paris, Walkabout, In A Lonely Place, The Gods Must Be Crazy, Its a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, Casino, The Man Who Fell to Earth, Basket Case, Goodfellas, City of God, Frida, Fargo, Spinal Tap, Waiting for Guffman, Broken Flowers, The Misfits, Don't Bother to Knock, The Longest Yard (the original), The School of Rock, Match Point, Crash, Spanglish, Something's Got to Give, Meatballs, A Brief Vacation, Deliverance, A Street Car Named Desire, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Ms. 45, Caged Heat, Chinatown, Dogtown & Z-boys, Slapshot, Trading Places, Back To School, Easy Money, Waking Life, Before Sunset, Bad News Bears (the original), Office Space, Jackie Brown, Bubble Boy, Where's Poppa?, Band of Outsiders, Alphaville, Dumb and Dumber, Liar Liar, Y Tu Mama Tambien, Motorcycle Diaries, The Day of the Jackal (the original), Citizen Ruth, Stripes, Groundhog Day, I'm Gonna Git You Sucka, L.A Story, Scarface, Smokey and the Bandit, Motel Hell, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, The Harder They Come, Countryman, Targets, High School Confidential - Alright my brain is fried.
TelevisionIn my film, Safety First: the Rise of Women!, I wanted to capture the magnanimous pulchritude of the California woman.
