LUPARA: Lupara (Crash Music)

A lupara is a sawed-off Sicilian shotgun carried by old-school mafia soldiers and said to be powerful enough to blow a man in half. Which would also be an apt description of this 11-track deathcore blast from Chicago-based quintet LUPARA. Led and formed by former Broken Hope guitarist Jeremy Wagner, the band veers from churning rhythms and guttural vocals to virtuosic solos and thrash sing-alongs with no let up of intensity. Or catchiness, as proved by the maniacally repetitive chorus of "Killing the Fool" and the hooky, harmonized guitar licks of "Ashes In Your Mouth," which easily cut the amateurs in half.
