About me:
Hola! My name is Lupita Del Puente, and I am a Mexican Free-tailed Bat. I spend my spring and summers under the Congress Avenue Bridge in downtown Austin, Texas with 750,000 of my closest friends! Every evening as the sun sets, we fly out from under the bridge in search of food. We eat between 10,000 to 30,000 lbs. of insects every night, including lots of mosquitoes. Lots of our human friends arrive in the evenings to watch us fly - about 100,000 each year! Oh, and I've been told that it is wise for them to bring an umbrella -- and not because it's raining!
