LYJO are a professionally performing jazz band and are available for concerts, functions and gigs across the south east of England. To find out more, or to book the band email simon@lutonyouthmusic.co.uk
Luton Youth Jazz Orchestra was established in 2002 by Simon Router, a peripatetic brass teacher for Luton Music Service. LYJO evolved from the very popular Stopsley Saturday Morning Music School Jazz Ensemble. The band meets every Tuesday evening during term time.
LYJO also takes the opportunity, where possible, to work with professional musicians: attending workshops or even performing in concert with them. LYJO has, once again, been invited to participate in the final heats of the National Festival of Music for Youth, at which they have previously been national champions in their class and performed at the Royal Albert Hall.
LYJO have many engagements throughout the year in the form of both public performances and private functions. In addition to performing, the band has made three recordings. The first CD, recorded in January 2003, is called 'Our First Wade With Gospel John' and the second, recorded in 2004, is called ‘Gradually Last Summer’. The third, ‘Hunting LYJO’, was recorded more recently.
They are all available to purchase by email or at any LYJO gig.
The band has been on several tours in this country and abroad. Most recently they returned to Malta for a second five-day tour following a successful visit in 2005. They are hoping to tour again next summer.
