The Leeds University Union Dance Band was formed in 1987 and since then it has not only become described as the "best big band in Leeds" but has developed a following of fans from all over the country. The band is made up of full saxophone, trombone and trumpet sections, two singers and the all important rhythm section. Auditions for the band are held every September and even current members of the band must re-audition. The band is one of the most successful of Leeds University's societies, bringing in a large amount of money from gigs every month. Using the money made throughout the year the band goes on tour to the south of France during Easter time, playing gigs to hundreds of enthusiastic fans. The band has also reached new heights of success, playing charts written especially for it by an arranger in Texas. .... "The third appearance for this fantastic big band based at the University up the road. This band proves you don't have to be from the LCM to play good music. Featuring an array of vocalists to take you through many styles from the big band eras." - The Wardrobe, Leeds. .... Over the years the band has gigged in two of the most well known jazz clubs in the North, the Wardrobe and the HiFi Club, and has also collaborated with a company in Liverpool which resulted in the biggest and best big band concert the city had seen in a while! ....
