Lux Astra was formed in the fall of 2007 from the remains of three local bands My War is Not, Fire It Up!, and The Deceived. Lead guitarist, Anthony Longano, Rhythm Guitarist Alex Hernandez, Lead singers Danielle Chirico and Anthony Galasso, Bassist Michael Callegy, and Drummer Troy Veglatte wrote and recorded 5 songs at lead guitarist Anthony Longano’s home shortly thereafter. At that point, Lux Astra won a battle of the bands at Starland Ballroom, which enabled them to play a date of the 2008 Warped Tour; it was only their fourth show. After faltering with rhythm guitar players, The bands original signer, Anthony Galasso, decided to move to Florida to persue his education. Months later the positions were filled by the new signer, Tim Hickson, and new Rhythm guitarist Ezra Ruffino in the fall of 2008. Writing a slew of new songs, and a change of the music being written filled the months leading to, and following the addition of the new members.
After the initial welcoming of the two new members to the Lux Astra family, the band embarked on taking things to the next level, not only by booking a five week country wide summer tour, but also stepping the recording quality up a great deal. From the months on January to April, Lux Astra began to work up their chops on the road by booking and touring around New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and New Jersey. During this same time, the band entered the 2009 Break Contest to play at Bamboozle, which they made it to the final round in April; it was a valued Experience.
Singers Tim Hickson and Danielle Chirico wrote lyrics for 2 new songs, Eastfold, and Severed Ties and Black Eyes, which are now, finished being recorded. Wanting to add something a little different, the band added a non-musical member to Lux Astra, Jim Hart. His place in the band ranges from music production to managing tech to running the lightshow during live performances. Also, he is writing a background story that their first full-length CD will follow. They plan on recording and releasing it after coming back from there first tour this summer, and plan on touring full time after it’s release..
The mission of Lux Astra is, and always has been, to give their fans music they have never heard before, and a live performance that is sure to impress. Their music can’t be defined by a certain genera or style, and because of this, Lux Astra has a little something for everyone to enjoy. They have a growing number of fans, both locally and nationally, and they’re always looking for ways to advance their musical careers.
