18-year-old Lydia Patritto, from Hurley, WI, has taken the music world by storm with her very first release, Grand Dreams, which was released on September 1, 2007. With a country/pop alternative edge, Grand Dreams shouts originality. Independent recording company, In the Chips Production, did this multi-faceted recording during the summer of 2007.
From living room performances to the live stage at the legendary Bitter End of Greenwich Village in New York City, Lydia has always been driven by music. At the age of 6 she begged for piano lessons, which she began with Kristin Kolesar, and from then on she has just added to her repertoire. Piano/keys, which is evident on her solo debut album, is her favorite, but she also plays saxophone, accordion, and dabbles in mandolin, guitar, and most recently, the fiddle.
In the 6th grade Sandra Genisot stepped in to become her piano instructor and eventually, her voice coach. According to Lydia, Sandra has been her sounding board throughout the writing process of all of her songs.
In the spring of 2007, Lydia’s mother, Natalie, sent the very first recorded song, Heartbreaks, to Larry Oakes of the Bitter End to be submitted as an audition. She was later informed that Lydia had passed the audition phase and was invited to perform at the Singer/Songwriter Session at the Bitter End on July 15, 2007, the very same stage which has been graced by Billy Joel, Norah Jones, and hundreds of other successful musicians. Lydia performed five of her originals and was invited to return to perform again. She has performed there twice since then.
Being inspired by her Bitter End experience, Lydia returned from New York City completed writing three more songs. From there she decided it was time to record her first CD. Recording of Grand Dreams was completed on August 14, 2007, after the decision was made to add a bonus track. The cover song Crazy, written by Willie Nelson and performed by many, was recorded with the very talented Dave Morehouse on acoustic guitar and Lydia ..s/synthesizer.
Grand Dreams has such a variety of sounds, from a 50’s to the edgy “today” sound, that all music fans will be sure to find a new “favorite” song to add to their I tunes libraries. She performed one of her Grand Dream songs, “The Perfect Love Song” at the Minnesota State Fair. She won a spot in the semifinals and performed at the band shell during the fair in August of 2007.
Lydia has moved forward with her music career as she has teamed up with singer/songwriter/producer Mark Huhta of Nashville. Lydia recorded two of Huhta’s originals, “More” and “I Just Came For Coffee.” She has since been to Nashville on numerous occasions and has also begun working with singer/songwriter/producer Bob McGilpin.
She has been performing at more and more locations across the states of Wisconsin, Michigan, and Minnesota over the past year. She performed at the Wausau Festival of Arts, The Brink Lounge in Madison, The Hurley Coffee Company, Old Suffolk Alehouse in Ironwood, Michigan, Gingko Coffee House in Minneapolis, the Second St. Bistro in Ashland, Wisconsin, and The Acoustic Café in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to name a few.
She has also performed the National Anthem in many settings, most notably singing the anthem for the University of Minnesota Gophers baseball and basketball games. Outside of her normal performances, Lydia has done benefit concerts for local residents in need. In October of 2007 Lydia did a benefit concert to raise funds for a family who lost their home in a fire. In July of 2008 Lydia played a benefit for a local family with a terminally ill three year old. Both performances were well received and were very beneficial to the families.
She has been accepted to the Music School at Middle Tennessee State University and is excited to continue her music education and career there in the fall of 2009.
