These days’ female vocalists are literally a-dime-a-dozen, but every once in a while one comes along that stops you in your tracks by their sheer expressiveness and deep soulfulness. Lynda Morrison is just such a vocalist. A seasoned veteran, she has the vocal power to slam you against the wall and, at the same time, a vulnerability that will melt your heart and move you to tears. Comparisons to Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Gladys Knight, Tina Turner, Eva Cassidy and Janis Joplin are not uncommon; however Lynda Morrison truly has her own sound and vibe which would explain why she has such a loyal following. No matter where it is she is singing, whether a night club or in a church, a park or an amphitheater, her loyal fans show up to enthusiastically and lovingly support her.
Lynda Morrison began her professional music career in her teens when she went on the road with various club bands in the 1980’s. By the end of the decade she had already participated in multiple tours and recording projects. She quickly became the girl everyone called to sing on their albums and in their bands. In the early 90’s Lynda recorded her first solo album, “The River”. Assisting in the production and performance on it were Jaymes Felix (Tower of Power, Bryan Duncan), Greg Eckler (Rubicon, Darrell Mansfield), Bob Anglin (Sammy Hagar, Darrell Mansfield) and numerous others. Lynda also wrote or co-wrote many of the songs on it. The album was a regional success and has since sold out!
Now in 2008, following stints in regional gospel groups and blues bands, she performs with "Mercy”, which features her and a four piece back up band. With this fresh new line up Lynda covers classic soul, R&B, rock and blues pumping fresh new life into them with her extraordinary vocal prowess. There is also a healthy dose of originals included in her repertoire.
The most consistent comment one will hear from people who have attended a "Mercy” performance is that it was a “highly moving musical experience”. Lynda’s powerful voice supported by highly professional back up musicians and a repertoire of music that speaks to the soul all combine into a package that leaves the audience always wanting more.
